The only thing that is going to lay this to rest is when a second one surfaces and is identical to the first.

I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the story, or the authenticity of the figure.

I was extremely skeptical when I started reading this thread but I must say that I'm now inclined to believe that it is indeed genuine.
Every time I start feeling satisfied with my own collection, something amazing turns up to make it seem inferior, lol.
As an adult collector I'm well aware of the South African leaflet identifying the Jotun Troll but as a child I always thought the star monster would be Behemoth on account of the vague way the mystery figure is portrayed on the old box art.
I honestly never thought an example of this figure would ever turn up as I believed it to be a promotion that was planned but most likely cancelled at the last minute with no such figures ever being produced.

Another thing I feel adds to the authenticity is the uniformity of the star. Anybody who has tried to draw a star freehand knows how hard it is to evenly space the points.

You can see this unevenness on 80schild's attempt, but Nik's is even.

That's crazy! I guess they weren't too concerned with fraud back then

Well, until you posted yours nobody knew what it looked like! The only way to know was to get one, or know someone who got one.

Some people thought it was a unique figure. Until the Africa flyer stating that it would definitely be a Jotun Troll, we just did not know.

Add to that the assumption that the star would replace the point value, and if someone TRIED to fake it, they were doing so purely on guesswork.

We still do not know if they came in other colors. Which means that since the sets weren't random, you only actually had a chance if, and only if you chose a pack containing a Jotun Troll.

Really Cool find Nic, as for it being fake... tbh I dont think so as he has a back story, has only come onto this site & as someone else has mentioned not talked about how much its worth. (As of yet) maybe because he dont & wouldn't want to sell, because he has childhood memories from it.

Surely there comes a time though, that if you were offered a certain amount of money you'd have to think twice about not selling.

If I owned one, I think the fact that it's not a whole new sculpt would make me give more consideration to selling it. It if it were a unique sculpt, I'm sure I wouldn't unless I were offered a small fortune.

It would still be a very tough decision though, especially knowing it's the only one discovered yet within the collecting community. It would be hard to let go of that.

In a similar vein to what fkro said, even if I did see one for sale, the fact that it's not a unique sculpt would make me less inclined to buy it or pay as much.

Honestly I'm not too attached to the figure sentimentally, I just started appreciated it when I found out it was super rare. I just started collecting the series about a year ago. I always wanted to but the figures disappeared from stores pretty quickly when I was a kid, had no idea there was a series 2 etc. Only had the original ones that survived from child hood. A few years ago I started collecting series one of the trashpack and that lead me to want to collect more mini figures and when I lost interest in that series I started buying MIMP auctions.  I'm not too attached to the figure itself , but it's like my collection of TMNT comics, I like to know that if I'm ever down on my luck I have something of value to sell off quickly.

This group of collectors can be fairly cutthroat. Toss a Super Rare at them and they will go to any length to acquire it. This is status symbol land. I don't mean that in a bad way. Around here the rule of the day is 'spread the love'. I see it every day.

So you are saying sacrificing my first born for a Star Monster would be a bad idea?

Also the Italian packs had the description of promotion on the back of package! I have some sealed italian 12 pack boxes as well.
