Showcase #44: 2008 Weekly Playboy 29th Anniversary Green Kinkeshi (キン肉マン29周年 [5号連続]キンケシ20種応募者全員サービス)
I am OCD about being a Kinkeshi completist and in 2008 Kinnikuman had a ton of releases and cooperations. In August 2008 Weekly Playboy started a campaign that ran for 5 issues. This was a sort of similar to the stuff we see in the United States and cross promotions (like if you buy 5 boxes of cereal and send the proof of purchase in you get a toy etc).
Since the Kinnikuman the 2nd Generation (キン肉マンⅡ世 Kinnikuman Nisei) manga was serialized in Weekly Playboy between 1998 and 2004 it made sense that they continued with Kinnikuman Nisei: Kyūkyoku no Chōjin Tag Hen serialized from 2004 to 2011. So no surprise that Weekly Playboy participated in the Kinnikuman 29th anniversary festivities.
This lasted for 5 consecutive issues of the Japanese magazine Weekly Playboy and planned to go for 5 consecutive weeks until the August 25 issue. The first issue (#33-#34) was released August 4, 2008.
Entry forms came with each issue inside the magazine and for a cost of 450 yen + payment commission. There are 20 Kinkeshi types in 1 color (green); so 4 Kinkeshi per issue/set for a total of 5 separate sets.
The notable sculpts new to the green color scheme were the Kinnikuman Nisei characters (distributed one by one for each set).
The sculpts however are reprints of the 5 sculpts from the 10 Kinnikuman Nisei sculpts released/manufactured as an extra for the GameCube.
The other sculpts are reprints of the old Kinkeshi. The entry forms from the magazine could be chosen for any issue, but since it is only one sheet for each issue, in order to apply for all courses you needed to buy the five magazines.
The deadline was scheduled for September 22, 2008 (Monday), the Kinkeshi were shipped in late December 2008. These came out after the Part 3 2008 29th Anniversary set and was followed by Part 4.
These Kinkeshi can be found in the wild on yahoojapan and when I visited one of the Mandarake branches in Osaka they had them mint/unopened in the baggies for about 1,000 yen; so they are quite affordable if you find them complete.
Out of all the Kinnikuman stuff I have bought and had to pick up at customs this was the one that I was kinda embarrased about (hahaha) since the covers have girls which fortunately are completely clothed and the Weekly Playboy logo is in Japanese so the customs people didn't really know what I had ordered...
