Found a random lot of musclemen, and there was a #109, but he has some black painted onto his cape, belt, and head; otherwide the rest of the figure is flesh colored. Was this from a special set or a ko?

EDIT: I THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE MUSCLE SECTION, MY BAD.

Pics would help immensely.

If it is a legit M.U.S.C.L.E., i.e. same material as the others and proper trade markings, then it's a custom paint job

If the material is different, tm obscured or replaced, maybe a bit smaller than another #109, its a gumball bootleg. Maybe similar to this:

There were painted Kinkeshi as well, but I do not believe they were ever partial paint jobs. Also, the feel between a M.U.S.C.L.E. and a Kinkeshi are so distinctly different that you wouldn't mistake the latter for the former.

I added some pictures. I'm thinking this may be a bootleg then based on your description?

Also you mentioned the feel is different between Kinkeshi and MUSCLE; can you elaborate? I have to admit, though I love these little figures, my knowledge on them is very weak compared to hundreds of other toylines.

That looks like a kid did that with some markers...

Kinkeshi are far more flexible and less glossy than MUSCLE, as they're more literally made of a rubber. If you had a kinkeshi and MUSCLE of the same color, you couldn't remotely mix up the two.

Figures with thinner limbs and bodies are naturally bendier, and there are some bootlegs that are made of awful materials that are flexible too so it’s not a hard and fast rule on its own.
