Woah- I was completely unaware that I posted that three times!

Anyway, the crash dummies' limbs were held in by means of a wire- that's what keptthem from popping out. The wire is connected to groves on the arm and leg pegs. When you pushed the buttons on their chest, the wires moved, and the body parts flew out. The only problem is, the plastis is somewhat soft and the wires are somewhat hard and don't always move *enough,* thus creating a huge amount of wear on the figure- they break if you drop them off shelves enough, or throw them against walls, etc. Basically, the figures should stay in one piece if you're careful with how you brutalize them. They are, however, extremely FUN- just in need of replacements every so often.

I hope the new toyline fixes that problem (like thicker wire with metal joints? Or REALLY good magnets? Hopefully they don't fix it by making the dummies not explode...) Oh my damn, I gotta get me those figures! I freaking loved the crash dummies as a kid, but I didn't have many of their good toys (I had the rock-em-sock-em robot set AND the crappy Gamegear game though). My favorite was my plush doll of Spin with velcro limbs.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I have a box load of original Crash Test Dummies figures in factory sealed baggies that came straight from the Tyco Factory (I live in South Jersey where the Tyco factory used to be located). The baggies have kept them mint with all the parts intact. There are six different ones that I have:

Spin (Purple)
Slick (White)
Daryl (Red, Tall)
Spare Tire (Light Purple, Fat)
Dash (Yellow, came with red car)
Axel (Green, came with blue car)

I don't have a lot of Dash or Axel, but I have plenty of the other four. I'd be willing to sell or trade these to anyone who's interested.

Several of my friends had the large stuffed dolls with velcro arms and legs... we got them at the same KB Toys during the Mortal Kombat craze. I got mine first, and got the only purple one for something like $5, and my friends got the rest.

We use to have a blast with ripping 'em apart.

Yay Crash Dummies!

 

I had so many of these toys. So fun to play with. These toys really understood what I loved to do with toys when I was young: smash them together.

 

The original toys by Tyco were, indeed, Incredible.

 

The reboot from Hot Wheels left a lot to be desired...
