This and that - mostly that!

Posted 21 August 2012 - 01:41 PM

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me identify some figures that I spent many happy hours playing with when I was younger. I haven't found them out (I know they're hiding somewhere) so I'm going to have to describe them:

First of all I remember they were made by Bluebird, like my Mighty Max toys, and I remember vividly that I took them into hospital to play with when I had an operation at the age of 7, so they must have been out around '91 or '92.

The figures we're a mix of heroic looking men and monsters about 1 inch tall, standing on a cylindrical purple base, again about 1 inch tall. On each characters base there were various ratings, presumably like strength and speed etc (I can't actually remember). The cool bit was that each character had these coloured skulls that you attached to their base and when you had a better 'score' than your opponent you took one of there skulls!!

I'd love for someone to tell me what these guys were called, even if it's purely for the sake of reminiscing. I'd like to think that I used to have a full set too, so if anybody know how many there were that would be great. Just got to try and find these little guys now :wallbash:

Cheers in advance

I've got the Bluebird dealers catalogue from 1992, and Hero Gladiators feature on the cover (as well as having two pages to themselves inside). I'll scan it sometime this week, if you want?

Thanks guys! Hero Gladiators it is then. TwoHeadedBoy I'd love to see that catalogue scan if you don't mind. Just need to find out how many there were in the set.

EDIT: I've just managed to find them yay! Turns out I have 10 of them and there were 12 in the set. Now to identify which I'm missing!

It's a nice catalogue, it really is. It also features Manta Force, Zero Hour, Chopper Ace, Eggsploders, The Warriors of Kerang, Tool Street Gang and the Big Red Fun Bus, amongst other things.

Tool Street Gang and Big Red Fun Bus!!! Man I loved playing with those back in the day! Bringing back great memories now buddy! My mom gave all my stuff away years ago though.

Yeh I just need 2 for the full HG set, which if I could pick up cheap would be great.

Yeah, think I remember that one in the newspaper. I wanted my mum to buy the Sun from Woolworth's for that very reason, but that was when I was young and unaware that certain scummy newspapers aren't allowed to be bought.

Manta Force is one of the best things ever though - got loads of them now!

Did you get that Bog Rocket I was bidding on? If so, good one!

I currently have the Manta Force ship, the Black Barracuda, the Red Venom (had this since I was tiny), and the Manta Force Base.

Next on the list is the Bog Rocket (again!), and the Astro Shark.

I've managed to find my 10 Hero Gladiators and have found something odd! First of all, this isn't the odd bit, but I have one figure as a double, Hackor.

Now the slightly odd thing, 3 of my figures aren't in the above catalogue picture. They are called Ghengar (grey), Strykor (royal blue) and Fanglac (orange). So this has left me wondering if some of the catalogue figures weren't ever made and were replaced by others. It also makes it a little difficult for me to work out which figured I don't own that we're actually available!! Basically I have 9 + 1 double.

Anybody who has any of these can you please post their names or even a pic in this thread, then I might be able to work it all out.

Cheers guys.

They're all there - look closely, Strykor came with that big playset. As for the other two, they're there as well, just in different colours. "Colours may vary", as most catalogues point out before you order stuff... Unless they did all the figures in different colours, to get the kids to buy more of them?

Ah yeh I see those 3 now thanks, and I remember that I did have that play set at one time :).

So the ones I'm missing are:

Attlac (red)
Loxor (yellow)
Eywulf (dark purple)
Bloodrac (black)
Skor (dark orange)
Jazrax (cream/yellow)

Without them I'm yet to experience, quote catalogue, 'The thrill of collecting all twelve in the range!' ha!

Lashton was the one I had as a child. Couldn't tell you why I picked such an ugly fellow as my figure... Eldroc was the one my brother had. I know some of my skulls lasted much longer than his, but all that is likely left of either figure is just the figure itself. I'm almost positive I still have Lashton around, but not sure if I rescued Eldroc from obscurity or not.

Looks like there may be colour variations as the link Eri posted has a blue/turquiose colour Fanglac.
