This and that - mostly that!

Posted 01 June 2014 - 08:42 AM

After the green Jimmy Squarefoot topic sparked off some discussion of S3 values, I thought it would be worth exploring things a little more.

Some might argue that the most 'valuable' sculpts are Orobas and Centaur, followed by Blemmyea. The opposite end of the scale would possibly be Anubis (especially in orange). Like with BEB, it's seems wrong to say a certain S3 is common, but there always seems to be an orange Anubis on eBay more often than not.

Colour seems to be a strong determiner of price too. In particular, purple S3 figures seem to command a higher price. Will a Big Boys colour always pull a higher premium than a Shreddies? For those unfamiliar with the colour differences, this thread would be worth a read: http://www.littlerub...06689&hl=purple

Often, S3 figures tend to stay under $100, but certain gems, like pink Orobas for example, can carry on past that number. Sometimes they can surprise you with how low the price ends too - for example the blue Blemmyea that sold on eBay UK several months ago. Final price was £35 ($58ish) a number which I thought it would fly past. Then, an identical Blemmyea from an Italian seller goes for £120. Go figure!

I only own two S3 figures, both of which weren't really correctly listed, so I'd be interested to hear what those who own more S3 figures have to say in regards to values.

Purple ones go for $100+, Blue ones seem to carry a little higher price like $70-100 (except Orobas). Orobas goes for higher prices in general than the others. And the other figures tend to vary between $30-70, with Big Boys towards the higher end.

About two weeks ago a purple abomible snowman went for $35. I cried a little.

I am honestly kind of surprised S3 figures still go as high as they do, as they seem to appear pretty frequently (maybe certain sculpts in certain colors don't--I don't keep track of that). I do wonder if the demand for them will ever go down.

Back in 1999-2000 I bought my whole set of S3 sculpts off someone for like $70-80. Believe it or not back then that seemed like a lot but I am still so glad I went for it!

I think they go for as high as they do because some people are out there and flip them for $100. I am pretty sure the guy who out bid me at $142.50 was not going to keep them in his collection.

Wait a minute.... the same guy who won this lot is the one who paid $142.50........................

Yep! Except for Blemmyea, which came from my copy of the NES game.

Here's the ones I got, except for the Jimmy. I forget what color it was but I traded it away and kept my apple green Big Boy one, which I got out of a Big Boy pack I scored back then as well, also for like 10 bucks I think!

Awesome purple Snowman for that price!!

The guy who does a lot of flipping is 'Mike from Akron'. If you look at the current and completed S3 listings he has the monopoly. Most of the time he whacks them straight back on for $100+ BIN. S3 figures and anything else MIMP related that is remotely uncommon or rare.

To be fair he also sells commons for a high mark up too ;)

I tried to buy a Black Behemoth from him for $100, but he wanted more. I ended up paying the same price while he sold his for $80.

I actually just did a bin from him for a jimmy green apple colored for $81. He wanted $100 then I went for $70 and then he wanted $85 and I was JUST ABOUT to do it and was like "NEVER!" and slashed it to $81 :p

I am fairly certain I had most of these S3's as a kid. Between my cousins and my brother and I we ate a lot of cereal, ok?

I know without a doubt my grandma had several in her toy basket for us. Now it's all just gone. A damn shame!

I, personally, would have bit the bullet on the $60. The mimp wars are insane when a series 3 is tossed in the pile. I never saw a mimp 3 lot go less than $100.

I am single minded in my MIMP hunting. And prices were down for a while, so I bought up quite a few of them.

I got an orange Centaur, in a lot of crackerjack prizes, for $7.
I don't collect mimp very heavily, so I am curious. What will an orange Centaur usually fetch?
