This was really just a "test" run, as I wasn't sure how detailed I could make the sculpt. I plan to do many more in the future.
You can see a few more pics in my Flickr stream.

What does it mean when you say "printed"? It's very cool to see your progression through the different figures you made and posted on toypedia. This is by far my favorite.
Are you making any for sale/trade?
I want one O_O

Like coffee? I roast for a living! Check it out at caffepacori.com
Ask me about trading coffee for your spare M.U.S.C.L.E.S.! I'll take most, regardless of condition

I sculpted it in Sculptris, a 3D sculpting program. Do a google search for it; it's a great program. I found it pretty easy to use (for the most part). Once the 3D sculpt was completed, I used the company Shapeways to print the sculpt. For this project and for this sculpt, Shapeways was great, although there were some minor issues. I'm still learning, and I think it's going to be a trial and error type thing. (Sanjeev was kind enough to give me some tips and advice too.)
I'm certainly not opposed to creating figures from this print, but I wasn't really planning on it. Basically due to budgetary issues. I would need to commission someone to create a mold of the print and then cast some figures. I'm not sure how much all that would cost. Of course I'd love to see what this piece would look like in a couple different colors too.
As for what materials to use for beginner sculpting, I would try Sculpty Firm, some of the softer Willow Waxes, or Adam Bean's CX5 (keep in mind that for wax you'll need wax carving tools). I would also recommend trying Scultpris. The idea for Challie just flowed out of me while using Scultpris, and I don't think I would have been able to sculpt him out of wax at my current skill level. And I've only scratched the surface with Sculptris.

Well, Shapeways is okay for what it is...but if you guys are really interested in 3D printing, I'd recommend checking out our latest exploits on TBDX:

Basically, we can't really stand Shapeways anymore due to inconsistent quality and terrible customer service. Another shop called i.materialise has been giving us much better results.
Anyway, keep up the great work, Soupie!

i love the figure. very simple but engaging. it reminds me of mordles! shapeways is something i am going to fiddle with sometime in the future. i am waiting for the printers to come down in price to a reasonable level and buy one of my own
Yeah I kinda got a mordle feel too. Really some nice work there.
