How many Purple Claws are known?
5 or 6, or something like that? Ironoak x2 (one later sold), Veers (painted), arforbes (1 or 2?), Clawfreak x1 (or 2 with recent auction?).

Too many to believe someone just got a great deal paying $600 for one.

I would estimate around 15+ that are known.

Although the Purple Claw has a somewhat Iconic status, it is - in reality - no more rare than 3P, 1P, 155P and the other figures which would have moulded at the same time.
It's just way more popular and so in higher demand..

I think you're right. $600 I thought was a deal based on past sales, but you're right. We'll probably continue to see the price of purple claws be dramitcally lower unless another pinhead bidder shows up.

I see the purple claw like Daryl, bloody black and white Rick, and plain Rick from series one of The Walking Dead. I watched NUMEROUS auctions of Daryl and plain Rick before I finally bought them. Each time they went for big money. I think I've seen a Daryl hit $275+, plain Rick can go for $225, bloody black and white Rick can hit $275+ as well. Why??? I think the same principle behind more people want them than what is currently available can be applied. Toys R Us is horrible about keeping TWD on shelf. I was lucky to get my latest complete set of series three. I thought that the figures weren't coming out till May, but they came out in late March. When I saw them I went directly home, grabbed my gift cards, and went directly back. It couldn't have been 20 minutes, and there was a family of four or five people standing in the isle area TWD was at. I was able to get everything. I went back the next weekend and only two figures were left. Toys R Us does not keep these figures stocked. When the figures are sold out, they're sold out for good.
Sorry if I just went on a ramble.

I think the guy would have gotten more if he had taken paypal.

Good possibility, I guess we'll see when the next auction comes up. These purple claws are showing up more and more often now. We'll probably see another one before year's end.

okay weird. my mom gave me a daryl walking dead figure and i had no idea it was worth that much. i totally took him out of the package and everything. lol that makes me laugh. i don't collect for value anyway.
and i know it has been said way too many times but i think i got the best deal ever on my purple claw
i would guess that at least 20 purple claws are out there in LRG collector hands alone.

That is a given about you getting the best deal on the purple claw. By the way, I know you mentioned you don't collect for value, but Daryl out of package is still a $100+ figure.

I would guess there are somewhere in the range of 30-60. Over the years it seems many have surfaced and changed hands countless times. The figure holds the allure because at one time it was so hard to come by. Add in the fact that it is such a popular sculpt and boom the desire is multiplied. Price will keep dropping as times goes on. Figures like #2 purple and red #134 are far more scarce. But since they are not popular sculpts they will never command a super high "claw like" price tag.
Once the "claw chasers" get the purple to complete their sets you won't see the hardcore bidding wars like you do now. I can see the price dropping significantly over the next couple years

30-60??? Where are you getting that range from??
Posted 14 June 2013 - 07:32 AM
Just an estimate from looking back through threads of previous claw owners. Also some private collectors I know have more than 1. I have family in the state of Washington and in the last year alone they found me 2 in yard sales.
So I think the number is higher than people think. Muscle is such a small community that people really have no idea what's worth what and what's rare. I think muscle "awareness" is growing and more will be found.

So in less than a year you have managed to get your hands on 3 purple claws?

There is a chance there are even more than that. Every friend I talk to has a stash of these things at home and hasnt looked at them in 25 yrs. Who knows what is bound to show up as people start going through all their old stuff in the next few decades.

I think ironoak is right. I think they're value will probably remain steady where the last one ended for a while, but I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped even more. I don't expect to see any purple claws selling for $1000 any time soon, if ever again.

I agree bill I doubt we ever see it pass $600.
Tman as far as known figures goes its near impossible to say. I put a rough estimate out but we will never know for sure. Think about how many collectors are out there that do not participate on the forum? I'm sure there are a lot and maybe some of them own purple claws.

KNOWN: knowledge of
Knowledge is a familiarity with someone or something, which can include facts, information, descriptions, or skills acquired through experience or education
True, but we have been seeing more and more come out lately. Price may still continue to hold at $600+ for a while. Did the doubt this board create and Propay affect the last one? Good possibility, but I guess we'll see when the next one comes up.

Your a pretty funny fellow. I try my best to be civil with you and carry on an adult discussion but somehow we manage to get at each others throats. When asked how many are known, ironoak's answer is "it's impossible to know" got my laugh for the day!
