I can't wait for this to come out on DVD!
BTW,
I'm glad they got Peter Cullen to do the voice of Optimus Prime.
The one thing that I wish for was if they could have gotten the real life soldier, Optimus Prime, to have had a cameo in the movie. I would have liked very much to have seen that in the credits!
Congratulations! Taxes, titles, licenses, and fees, not included.

Ya Soundwave was my fav too. There IS a character that is an omage' to Soundwave. They made Frenzy a little spider droid that changes into a boombox. I kinda wished that Starscreams voice was a little more original and 'raspy'.the design was alright,We'll see more of him in the sequel.I haven't seen it yet, but didn't you guys think Star Scream looked like crap? I guess I will have to judge for myself. Oh, I merged the two topics together. Oh, and I am kind of pissed that there is no Soundwave! He was my favorite next to Otimus Prime.

I'm glad they got Peter Cullen to do the voice of Optimus Prime.
I saw the movie yesterday and having Peter Cullen repraise his voice role as Optimus Prime was the best thing about the movie.
I had little to no expectations about the movie going in, but I did predict that it would be "human" heavy in that most of the film would show what we humans were going to do about these giant alien robots running around I was prett much right. It's not until about an hour into the flick that any real action occurs and you don't even see Megatron in action until almost the two hour mark.
There's no character development with any of the Transformers at all. They were mearly used as background special effects for the most part. Too much emphasis on the humans, and the whole S7 secret government force seemed to me to be an easy out for the script.
The special effects were great, but I'm not a fan of the actual robotic designs that were used, but I'm sure that I'm being biased in that respect as I would prefer the Transformers to look like they did in the 80s comic and cartoon.
Overall, I give the movie a D+ and I feel that's a generous grade given the poor script and overall length of the film (2+ hours).

Have to admit, I wish it were a little shorter. My girlfriend and I don't have large bladders...

Anyway, that's just the general tone of ignorance. What's worse is what Artimus Prime pointed out...where's the damn robots? This movie could be more accurately called "Annoying Teen Gets a Girlfriend...and, oh yeah, robots do some stuff." If I'm going to see a movie called "Transformers", I'd like it to be about and primarily starring...Transformers. The majority of the Decepticons don't show up until the last half hour and none of them last very long in any particular fight. And they all have the WORST dialogue in the movie...and that's saying something.
Anyway, bottom line is that it could be a cool movie to have on in the background while you're distracted with other things or friends, and you can watch some robot ass-kicking for five minutes here and there, but it's a slog to sit through the other 2 hours of it. I think this bit of trivia from IMDB says it all: "Michael Bay originally turned down directing the film, considering it "a stupid toy movie." However, as a young man he worked at Lucasfilm Ltd. and had a similar opinion about Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), which became a classic hit. Realizing he was wrong about that film and perhaps about this one, he signed on to direct the film. He also took the job because he desired to make a family film, though he wanted to make it edgier than usual." In other words, he has no love or even respect for the movie or characters (let alone the audience) and treated it as "stupid" to begin with. Plus he clearly has no taste if he thought Raiders was stupid. I just hope they can give the sequel to some folks who give a damn.

Let me just say that it inspired me to draw my own Transformers... unfortunately I made a toaster and Wii-mote one..
*has a fangirl moment* Optimus Prime = <3
It amazes me with the styles of the characters now compared to their 80s versions of themselves. They were more box-like and reminded me so much of the Zords from Power Rangers (except Power Rangers, in my opinion, sucked compared to Transformers), and in the movie, their CG counter-parts are more bodily-opened.
As R2-D2 would say: Your parts are showing.
XD

AND THE MAN IN THE BACK SAID EVERYONE ATTACK AND IT TURNED INTO A BALLROOM BLITZ!

I was thinking the same thing on the Mars rover scene and going huh? the mars rover cameras can do that!??
The action seqences made it hard to see the details at times and the Transformers themselves had too much going on. Too many parts flying around, i'm not a fan of their robot forms, however they make sense when they stand still and you can see them when they're not full of the moving CGI clutter. The movie seemed kinda choppy at times and you could tell the movie was 2+ hrs long. Artimus was being generous, i'd give it a "F" for more reasons than i care to write about. i would't spend any money seeing this film again, i wouldn't even see it again if it were free. IMO as a huge TF fan wait for a matinee, or a cheap theater or a two for one rental than paying full price and giving Micheal Bay your hard earned money.

atleast it had some robots and a Peter Cullen voice that sounded like a Peter Cullen voice not someone talking into a magnaphone like some haggerd drunk.

I also wanted to note that I've been seeing a lot of reviews along the lines of "dumb and I didn't like it, but fanboys will love it." Wrong. Being a fan is crucial to why I'm angry about the movie. I had to see it because I'm a fan, despite all warnings of what a hack-job it was likely to be. So, instead of a pleasant suprise, I sat captive, watching in horror as Michael Bay undid his belt, pulled down his pants, and took a massive dump on my childhood.
Seriously, unless you have some mind-altering substances in your system and/or a rowdy crowd and talkative friends to distract you from the relentless idiocy, you do not need to see this movie. I say this as someone who, when seeing the very first teaser, at the very first glimmer of metal, said "Holy crap, Transformers! I need to see this!" I was starting to buy the new toys a month ago. As much as it pains to admit when you've been conned, I was. So again, here's my public service for the day: If you think you might be anything like me, for the love of god, spare yourself and don't feed the beast.

I dissagree. It was everything I thought it would be and more! Everybody knew the TF's would'nt look G1. ,but they looked great nonetheless.Did you think that Wolverine was gonna come out in his yellow and black costume in the X-Men movies? I did'nt,but the costumes they did wear (plain black) lacked any imagination. Talk about a let down. They could've done the series so much better. I don't think the TF movie turned out bad at all story, graphics,I thought it was all good. But if you want a Great Story go read a book! I'll sit here and watch Transformers. I'm thankful that they even MADE a movie!atleast it had some robots and a Peter Cullen voice that sounded like a Peter Cullen voice not someone talking into a magnaphone like some haggerd drunk.
So that's what was going on with the hide-the-giant-clanking-shining-robots-in-the-backyard scene. thank you for clearing that up. It also helps to explain why Prime talks like a 12 year old girl in that scene. ("But I neeeed the glasses NOW!") Been hittin that fermented Energon a little too hard have we?

That's really not the point I was trying to make. As I said in my previous post, I actually liked the new designs. Quite a lot, actually. But, really, that's about the limit of the creativity put into the movie. I liked the X-Men movie costumes as well. It may not have been imaginative in the comic book sense, but it fit the tone of the movie, which tried in some way to put what is supposed to be a covert team into the "real" world. You can't do anything subtle or stealthy in bright spandex. Which is why Superman is a nice contrast. He's meant to be a big bold symbol. Anyway, that's way off topic. But character design is not what a movie (or a comic) is all about. You can't judge it on whether you like how a character looks. If character design is all that matters, then why have a movie at all? Just have the toys and you get everything you want and more. And a movie like this was quite capable of delivering a Great Story, but it just would have taken more capable and caring hands than a few cynical studio hacks with no intentions other than to sell toys and trucks and a clear contempt for the movie and its fans.
Anyway, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind or argue. But if I had heard something like what I posted before I saw the movie, I would have been grateful and waited to see it on TV. So, that's why I posted what I did. Not everyone will agree with me, but it needed to be said all the same.

I noticed however that they had a big stack of Transformers comic books in the ticket windows. did anyone get one? any good? They wouldn't give me one since I wasn't seeing the movie, but I was curious.

the slime of all my yesterdays
rots in the hollow of my skull
they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them

I wish I would have seen Live Free Die Hard instead.
I should have known better because I wasn't real exited about the Transformers in the first place
but robots that transform are just so cool.
I could have actually used less robots. I don't mind that the Decepticons got zero characterzation but
the Autobots come on. Entire chunks of the movie seemed to be written by a 15 yr. old.
And before you chalk these comments up to the Bay Factor, the scenes I enjoyed the most had his
mark on them. The spec. forces Vs. Decepticon scenes I thought were awesome. Bumblebee I could live
with but the rest of the autobots I could do with out.
Did Prime have such a comic releif in the source material? I remember his comedy being unitentianaly serious.
One of the reviews said something about TF stealing the plot from Terminator 2(?) I don't know about that but
maby they should have just bumblebee fighting Decepticons with the help of the special forces all coming in
at under two hours and I would have enjoyed this movie a lot.
Folks who put 3 fast 3 furious on there top ten worst list last year and Transformers on there top ten list this year
I'm seriously considering not being friends with.

And, Gil... you just pissed me off. They did NOT have comic books to give out at the AMC where my girlfriend and I went.
Grrrrr.

BTW, to support my contention that there will be a sequel, guess who got away at the end of the movie.
I'm taking bets that Starscream will be back with Shockwave hounding him for letting Megatron get dusted.

I didn’t have a problem with the redesign of the robots. This happens with just about any property that is converted to film. Batman, Superman, X-men – truthfully the list could go on and on, but for better or worse the changes tend to work. They tend to be made for a reason (e.g., more basis in reality, complex stories, etc.).
The story worked pretty well, but the focus was on the wrong spots. I think more about the glasses and why Megatron was there so much earlier would have helped. There was too much about that computer virus that never really went anywhere.
Plus with Michael Bay there tons of stupid shizznit. Hot chicks, with their orbs hanging out, were constantly near Transformers in slow motion. I’m all for orbs, but there’s a time and place. The action sequence of Transformers is not the time or place.
I think there’s hope that the sequel will be better. There won’t have to be any introduction, but I’d love to know what the world has done since giant robots were terrorizing people. I also hope they don’t try to develop too many new characters. Develop what you have, which can give you a reason to introduce new ones in the third film – which could launch a new trilogy.
Overall, I’ll give it a C+. It was a fun summer movie, but it might have some real trouble in repeated viewings. The pacing and length might really become an issue.
