I don't think they ever did. Knowing American cartoons, it was just randomly canceled one day at the end of a story arc... like Exosquad, Mighty Max, Street Sharks, Skysurfers Strikefore, etc. etc.

At least Beast Wars got a season finale. And Spider Man. Most of the others got bupkis.

I agree. Some did and others just disappeared. Its really infuriating. And then we have the problem of finding these shows in this day and age. I spent a long time trying to find Mutant League, Skysurfers, Beetle Juice, Creepy Crawlers, etc on dvd or even on torrents. These companies just go bankrupt and never sell their copy rights. Its a terrible practice for the rest of us.

Yeah Copyright law is a quagmire. There is no reason other than greed that it should last the life of the author plus 75 years (or 95 if it is a work for hire). There needs to be a more reasonable balance between protecting the author and letting the public use the material. Especially where the original holder no longer uses the copyrighted material.

I loved FF7 but the story was confusing. I liked that it was more crude and graphic. Cid was awesome. "Sit down and drink your %^&$#mned tea!"
weird I don't know what I did to get a partial reply in there lol... But my question still stands about the CW on old stuff from bankrupt companies...

Sounds like you are speaking of a specific Sherlock Holmes law suit going on lol and the very good reasons why I hate Christopher Tolkein and Frank Herbert's son. Hate those guys.

Hmmmm... What happens to the CW on something say like Mutant League if say the company that makes it goes Bankrupt?

As far as I know of USA copy right for joing works like cartoons, comics, etc., the rights are in complete limbo unless they are sold or liscensed. That was a huge issue with Exosquad. It only made it on dvd because the former company finally agreed to a liscensing deal (even though they neglected season 2).

They never showed his face on the show, but they did reveal him in the 90's action figure line. His face was covered in the package,
so you had to buy and open him for the reveal. Kind of a cool concept, i guess, but the result was a bit underwhelming. I was hoping he'd
have a crazy mask or breathing tubes or be half monster or something, but he's just some angry looking old dude. I actually bought the toy when i was a kid and still own it. It also would have been better if he came with his chair as an accessory, so he could sit in it and you
could turn it around, haha.

It depends on who actually owned the copyright. If it was owned by the actual creators then they have the right to the copyright. If it belonged solely to the company, then the courts would have to decide what happens to it. Preferably it would revert back to the public, but the legal system often doesn't make sense in its rules or outcomes.
I had not heard of the Holmes case (pun intended). I was merely reciting my meager knowledge from my IT class in law school.

A good marketing ploy, for sure. But the results sound disappointing. The chair would definitely have made more sense.

I remember back in 1983 or 84 my neighbor had one of the original Inspector Gadget figures and it came with all these attachments and an extending neck... it was SOOOO COOL!
(I was so jealous...)
Oh and Jughead - since you posted that pic of the claw toy still in the package... I found a pic where you can see his face on Ebay! I posted it below!

Oh and in regards to the what happens to old cartoon rights discussion... surely there is a length of time where those sorts of things expire and revert back to the original creators or go into public domain I imagine?

That is supremely weak. Looks like he is scowling and mumbling "Damned kids, get off my lawn!"
