yeah these have been all over the shelves at US retailers for a while now,
I don't know what the deal is with Minecraft merchandise but it always seems to be pricey. The LEGO micro sets they released were something like $40 each I believe. Crazy.

My daughter is super into Minecraft, and got some of the figures. They're actually kind of shoddy, and sit at the bottom of her toy box now.

pricey indeed

My kids are really into the Minecraft game and have a bunch of the toys. It's the one thing they've gotten into that I don't like or understand. The game doesn't seem to have a point. They need to watch youtube videos of other people making portals or whatever so they know what to do. They'll run into a new character or animal and point it out to me all excited, and all I can think is, "wow, another blocky piece of shit." It's crazy that kids are so into a game with graphics that remind me of the Commodore 64.
C418's soundtracks to the game are pretty sweet though, and I'm thinking about buying them on iTunes.

They're actually kind of shoddy
This is exactly what has prevented me from picking up a beloved Enderman or Creeper. They look shoddy even in the packages, (to me, anyways). This sucks to hear.
I really want a mooshroom though.

Dely has a mooshroom plush, and she loves it.

That's because it's the best goddamn thing ever.

I know nothing of Minecraft, but I have seen these toys at TRU, and seeing them made me happy, that I know nothing of Minecraft.
They look like bootleg Duplos.
Fans of Minecraft hear this stuff all of the time. It isn't so much how the game looks as it is about the open-world, endless/mindless creative gameplay. Back when I had a 360, my wife and I played split-screen quite frequently and could easily lose entire evenings to the game.

My son is stuck on Minecraft... I keep telling him "I already beat this level" or "I can't believe you haven't beaten this yet... I beat it in one night"
Pretty sure he is convinced I have no idea how the game works...

Yeah I had a lot of fun playing Minecraft for a bit but it eventually just got stale. Terraria is much easier to play, being 2D 16-bit style graphics, but I think that aesthetic probably isn't as adored by younger generations.
For both games though I think the crafting element is fantastic. I also think encouraging kids to get online to look up crafting recipes and video tutorials for making machinery and other stuff adds a learning element to it that you're not going to have in most games (that kids want to play).

Great game for the kiddies. Makes them use their imagination- which is rare these days.... My son plays it a lot. He isn't into the toys. He's into the AxeCop toys right now.

On a side note: the larger, articulated figures are garbage (but Jimmy, you said that!)... However, I just picked up a pack of the micro figures (pretty new, I think) and a blind box (Walmart)... And these are actually pretty well made, made out of a good flexible plastic.

Yeah, I saw the minis in TRU yesterday for the first time. Thought they looked pretty sweet, although there was no price tag on them, I'd guess they were hideously overpriced like the other Minecraft stuff.

$8 for a three pack... so yeah, you'd guess right.

Oh, that's reasonable by British standards. They seem to be retailing over here at £8.99, which is about $15.
[EDIT: TRU has them at £9.99. Completely unjustifiable pricing.]

I'd place their value closer to $6 (even that makes them about $2 a figure, for 1" figures). Mojang products are all notoriously f**king expensive though.

I remember when all the Minecraft merch was being sold through Thinkgeek and I believe the prices were the same if not a little higher than the cost in retail stores presently. I remember buying one of my employees a diamond-block of post-it notes for his bday and it ran something like $10; stupid.

Target has series 2 blind boxes on sale for $3.31. Picked up 4:
The bottoms of the boxes have an imprinted code. Not sure if these codes will always match these figures, but I took note in case I get some more for my kids:
3294M0BO Iron Armor Steve
3284M0BS Bats
3284M0BT Wither
3284M0BR Zombie Pigman
Other characters on the box:
Electrified Creeper
Zombie
Ocelot
Chicken
Steve with TNT*
Tamed Wolf*
Undead Horse*
Saddled Pig*
The 4 with a * next to the name are the ones that are exclusive to blind boxes and won't be in 3 packs.
