There were different sticker-books and packaging types that had checklists. The backs of the 5-packs had checklists and names. They also had a "track your collection" type website back when they were current to the marketplace.
I assume that the Gogos Wiki has checklists.
I do not know much about the late 90s Gogos -- except you can get tons of them for cheap on ebay.
I collected the newer incarnation which ran from 2010-12 in North America. This was Series 1-4.
Magic Box International stopped supporting the North American market after series 4. Series 5 and 6 (plus some exclusives) continued in the UK.
Other markets got entirely different series -- France, Netherlands, Israel, and Peru especially -- which surface on ebay.
One of the reasons I finally joined this site was that I was hoping to find international collectors to trade with. But that has not happened.
I will give you a rundown of the North American Gogo's Crazy Bones.
First, only two series had actual "rares." It may seem like others are rare -- or at least shortpacked per case -- but if you buy enough, and look at ebay sellers, you will be able to find the remainder of each series at roughly the same price per figure.
There are a couple of characters that also may seem rare due to their popularity. Mosh #1 and Fist #38 and definitely the most popular.
The fact is, the sets are just huge.
Series 1 -- 80 sculpts x 5 color variants*
Series 2 -- 80 sculpts x 5 color variants
Series 3 -- 80 sculpts x 5 color variants
Series 4 -- 80 sculpts x 4 color variants**
*plus an additional 20 re-painted rares (15 "wanted" and 5 "most wanted")
**plus an additional 10 re-painted rares ("most wanted")
Any given Series 1 rare showed up in about 1/20 packs-of-three (1/60 Gogos) and any given Series 4 rare showed up in about 1/30 packs-of-two (1/60 Gogos).
These rares still command fair prices, though not nearly as high as when the toyline was current.
The others you can find by buying bulk lots or by using the "U Pick" sellers where you can complete your set for around $2 per figure.
A couple more quick things...
If you are buying bulk lots or finding them at thrift stores, a short description of the styles might be helpful:
Series 1 -- all solid-colors
Series 2 "Evolution"-- all are actually variants of Series 1 sculpts. Half of the sculpts are in new colors, the other half are in glitter-translucent colors. Any glitter-translucent figure is from Series 2. One thing I always hated is that they did not make a glitter-translucent version of each sculpt. A sculpt either has 5 glitter-translucent variants OR none.
Series 3 "Explorers"-- all new sculpts. Each figure has 4 colors plus one "laser" finished color. These are super-shiny, but not metallic. They may seem to be shortpacked when you are looking for certain figures, but overall they do appear as 1/5 Gogos, or about 1 in every 2 packs. Any "laser" finish is from Series 3.
Series 4 "Power"-- all new sculpts. 2 per pack instead of 3. One solid-colored and one metallic. This series also featured 10 alt-paint metallics that are truly quite rare. Any metallic Gogo is from Series 4 or it is one of the ten exclusive to the "gold tin."
Series 5 (UK) -- this is a "best of" series called "Superstars." They are flocked versions of Series 1-4. There are also super-rare versions that are flocked and metallic.
Series 6 (UK) -- all new sculpts called "Edge." (I have none of these.)
Other North American releases:
Gold Tin -- also released in the UK. This features gold-finished versions of 10 Gogos from Series 1-3. The UK also had a second, similar gold tin that we did not get.
Silver Tin -- the silver tin does not feature metallic Gogos. It is a separate "series" of 10 solid-color sculpts. There are 5 versions of each figure and are acquired through buying 5 separate silver tins that have distinct lids -- to get the set of 50.
Black Tin -- another separate "series," though there was no way to externally distinguish one set from another. However, 5 distinct tins of 10 Gogos each still made the set of 50.
White Tin -- exactly as the "black tin" and issued at the exact same time. 5 tins of 10 Gogos made a third distinct "series" at 50 figures.
The White and Black Tins were Walgreens exclusives and turned out to be the absolute last Gogos in North America. I've still seen some at clearance as recent as 6 months ago. You may also find other Series 2 and Series 3 deadstock packs at Walgreens still. Series 1 and Series 4 are long sold out since they were the only ones with the potential of "rare" contents. All other retailers have sold off their Gogos stock long ago. They were a pretty big deal when they first came out with Series 1, the gold tin, and the silver tins -- quite plentiful at Target, Wal-Mart, and TRU.
Anyway, just looking at the 2010-12 Gogos available in North America, there are 1,710 distinct figures!
Series 1: 420
Series 2: 400
Series 3: 400
Series 4: 330
Tins: 160
This does not count the mono-colored Gogos from the 1998-2000 incarnation....
or promotional Gogos...
or knock-off Gogos...
or any international Gogos...
Like I said, the UK had our Series 1-4, plus at least two more regular series, plus Mega Gogos and Mini Gogos....
Much like MUSCLE, MIMP, FOP and all the other lines famous on this site, there is a lot of other minutiae that I could get into.
But just in sheer numbers alone, you can see that this is a pretty intense toyline.
