Ive been waiting for some time to snag a old Hot Wheels Hauler for a decent price however recently they seam to go kinda high for my taste of "going to tear it apart" but anyway. I obtained this SOC Hauler at the local flea market and decided it might look good done up so here we go.

Brand New In Pack :) (if the Hot Wheels collector that sold it to me only knew what i was gonna do to it).

So lets tear it open and destroy is main value, no more SOC.

Alittle 320 only to help the new paint job stick on and its another episode of "Pimp My Ride".

Break out the air brush and slapped on the new paint job.

Now for the tricky part for me, Ive never messed with these model decals before so at first i did not know you have to seal them. So after you print you own decals make sure to seal them before sticking them in the water to transfer.

The finished product is really amazing. The decal looks great and the paint went on really nice.

I just wish you had painted the cab – not that I wanted to see it white, but I’d love to see a cab other than white. I’m not crazy about the glittery silver, but that’s just a preference – not really a critique.

In fact, custom Haulers could be a pretty cool fan art contest. I’ve been looking at some of the modern Hot Wheels too, because I wanted to do another one without having to deal with eBay. Some of the truck styles would be pretty cool with the MUSCLE logo. Plus some of the crazy detailing that people could do.

At any rate, the Hauler looks great! Nice pictures too!

Why is it like everyone can see Photobucket pics but me? I can't even get the main site to come up, and everything i look at is full of holes where pictures should be.

I want to see the Hauler.

Yay, Photobucket's working for me again!! I got the PMed pics of the finished product and they were awesome, but i was curious as to what the original Hauler you used looked like, and the pics of the process.

How new is that truck? I am not at all a Hot Wheels guy, but my nephew likes 'em so i've been spending a bit more time looking at them, and have of course been keeping an eye out for suitably customizable trucks for you guys.

I myself do have the original Masters of the Universe Hiway Hauler, but rest assured it will not be getting a new paint job within my lifetime.

I'll have to try that...I have a die-cast GTI with some goofy graphics that I'l like to remove without destroyng the yellow paint.

Now for the tricky part for me, Ive never messed with these model decals before so at first i did not know you have to seal them. So after you print you own decals make sure to seal them before sticking them in the water to transfer.

One other thing with the water-transfer decals: if you try to apply them to a flat surface, they won't stick. Gloss is the way to go--if you want a flat finish, you'll have to flat-coat it after the decals are applied. That seals 'em pretty nicely, too.

Now i need to put an amp and speakers in the back and i will be good to go. :(

I hear you! However, changing the cab color would require drilling out the rivet, removing the cab from the base, and removing the black plastic "windows" before the repaint. After the body is painted, the cab is re-attached with either a small self-tapping screw or some CA glue. I suppose you could also take the 320-grit to the paint and mask everything, but removing the cab would produce the best results.

Thank you for the "step by step". Good job all around . Ive never understood the allure of Haulers myself but when something looks good it just looks good..regardless of what it may be.

Nice touch with the LED's as well :-)

Have you considered making an R/C MUSCLE Hauler?

It wouldnt take much to slap electronics in that beauty....

Divide & conquer works because of attachments people make to push-button issues, individual "leaders," parties, clans, tribes, policies, or agendas, leaving them open to manipulation.

Hum where would I find electronics that small? I am thinking of doing one with lights inside it and finally got a older hauler to convert to the rare version (when I get time) but that’s an idea I will have to research....I like it sure it won’t be an HPI with custom wound motor but gonna look for something :D

I guess an R/C hauler would be possible; the Bit Char-G R/C cars are about the same size. Their price would make such a conversion pricey, though.

Jet pointed you in the right direction :-)

Ive made many conversions using mini rc cars and the most you should pay if your buying direct is $10. You could probably do it for $5 as i generally have these laying around (cars) for spare parts and pick them up in the oddest of places for a quarter without the TX (radio control) and, if they are complete, for less than $6 if im so inclined.

Based upon what your doing with the haulers already it probably wouldnt be that difficult for you at all.

If you cant find one locally and your really interested let me know and ill see if i can find one for you for some change here.

That's a lot of masking, but it looks pretty good! The masking also has the advantage of retaining the rivets, making the Hauler look more like a factory job.

Random thought:

Have you considered creating a truck with a "cage" on the back used for transporting MUSCLE characters to a ring?

Similar to a cage used to haul "King Kong" in the movies?

I think that would be pretty impressive if one side of the cage had the MUSCLE logo over the bars and the other side allowed one to see the caged Muscle figure.

A MUSCLE savage.....

I love it. I like the silver cab AND I like the idea of a cage to transport MUSCLE figures to the ring. Excellent.
