Does anyone know if either of these sets contain pieces that are "female" on both ends (in particular the cylinder shaped pieces). Couldn't find a breakdown pic on line.

Yes, both sets contain pieces w/ 2 female ports. 1st pic, the disk in the middle has 3 female, one male port. 2nd pic has many pieces that work, including the body cylinder and the two arms (the male plugs you see at the end pop out).
