The Toei Animation production company announced on Tuesday that it is hosting Kinnikumania 2009 — an entire "real" professional wrestling event inspired by the Kinnikuman (Ultimate Muscle) anime and manga franchise. Takashi Shimada and Yoshinori Nakai's original manga revolved around a farcical wrestler who fought opponents and evildoers inside and outside the ring. The event will be held at the JCB Hall in Tokyo Dome City on May 29 to mark the 30th anniversary of the manga.

Shimada is chairing the executive committee for the tournament, which Columbia Music Entertainment, Toei Video, Bandai, Bandai Namco Games, and Banpresto are co-sponsoring. Advance tickets will be available in early April — not to readers of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the original home of the Kinnikuman manga, but to readers of Japan's Weekly Playboy magazine.

Way to cut the audience in half, Toei. I hope this disaster fails because of this. Then again, the Mantaro one was stupid beyond morality, so chances are good for this one being failure as well.

That's basically 50/50. It could happen, but it could not. On the plus side, if this event (even if it does suck) is popular, Toei might release another anime series for Kinnikuman (G1 or G2). On the negative side, they might do the G2 anime but make it more faithful to the manga. Redo the Chojin Crown ending? Fine.

Make it the same tone as the G2 manga? Fail.

I want to see the matches that come out of this event. The Noah Halloween show with Kevin Mask sparked a lot of interest in my friends that watch wrestling/puroresu and were not familiar with Kinnikuman.

Haha, that Kevin Mask thing was so campy it was awesome. Except it wasn't under Yude's supervision, it was just someone's (awesome) cosplay. Don't expect the awesomeness to carry over. Giving out advanced tickets to just the pervent-zine audience who wouldn't give two sh*ts about G1 and/or G2 is just an invite to failure.

Depends on how the element of "dumb" is used. If it's Anime "dumb", it'll be pure camp and mostly a guilty pleasure for us 29 fans.

If it's manga "dumb", they obviously didn't research their own audience well enough. Can I handle Toei mocking and Yude mocking on live-action CAMPY levels?

You obviously make yourself out to be a kid who is very loyal to the series, but can't stand it when someone says something bad about your favorite series or the people who draw them. This is a bad mistake to make in fandoms, kid. Not everyone

There is a fine difference between the trolling you endured to what endured. What you endured was the "subbie" trolls who just hate dubs in general, without anything to back them up; the anti-UM trolls lashed out at the show because 1) it was 4kids property and 2) anything Toei makes has to be like Dragon Ball Angst Filler (aka Z). Your trolls were pointless in thier mission.

My trolling/snarky comments make valid points. I never trolled any characters or anyone's personal taste, I just trolled the Worfing, the Bat-sh*t insane plot, Toei's cold-heartedness, Vizzy's iggnorance, and Yude's inability to capture what made Kinnikuman a legendary manga. I'm trolling this live-action mess because they (READ: Yude and Toei) cut the audience in half by giving out advanced tickets to the damn event in an adult magazine.

Yude no longer cares about everyone, they just want to appeal to perverts now. =(

You've been following Nisei for years, but have no idea which magazine it runs in, do you?

Kinnikuman Nisei has been running in Weekly PLAYBOY since 1998 and is still running.
Kinnikuman Nisei: All-Chojin Tournament ran in V-Jump sometime after 2001 and stopped around 2005 with delays.

I've KNOWN which magazine it runs in, but the truth is cold and hard: Yude missed a golden oppurtunity to generate a new fanbase by skipping Jump and placing it in a magazine aimed strickly for adult males. I love Jump, and I know it has more adult orientated mangazines (See Young Jump and Ultra Jump), but not many people associate Playboy in Japan with manga. People who read Young Jump, Ultra Jump and hell, even V-Jump, they expect manga and other things to suit their needs. Playboy? Just for the adult content.

When you think about Jump's audience in Japan, it makes sense.

To be honest I don't like to get into peoples "Quarrels" but Matto you seriously take a lot of Sh-t about Kinnikuman and it's sickening. It's "people" like you that makes something that other people enjoy eventually hate it because of your "trolling" of the series. Seriously do everyone a favor and shut up. All you do is B-tch and complain that's all, don't you have anything positive to say about it. What the Mangaka's do, is what they do, If they have an idea to make it better or worse it's their creation and they can do whatever they want with it. I'll say it like this, If I keep seeing people like Matto bash Kinnikuman I'm gonna make sure that when I'm done with the "Throne Arc" which I'm 8 chapters down. I'll make all my translations private for only certain people to read. Because it's one thing to do it for everyone to appreciate and it's another thing when people defecate all over it when you're busting your ass to translate it. I literally bought the entire manga set along with other Yudetamago manga's to translate which in fact it was hundreds of dollars spent on these. See I didn't even have to do that or care for anyone to see it I could have done that for myself. But since this is a forum where people acknowledge Yudetamago's series and work I'm gonna be doing them all little by little. But, that will depend if I'll ever release them or even Scan the manga's knowing people on here don't appreciate anything anymore.

Just like when I mentioned on here about the Nisei series how I had the first 26 Episodes on DVD with English subs. I said that I'd post them when I wasn't so busy with Kinnikuman and work, Matto you asked me to upload Episodes 27-51, and mentioned "If you post them maybe I wont make fun of you". There's your answer. I was going to post them all, Along with the "Throne" Arc in full since I have them in perfect DVD quality. But, I don't like how you talk about me between the lines, and most of all I don't like your sarcasm and how you ramble bad stuff about this series. I might do big posts but this one is directed to you, I don't know "Evil Lord" but I do agree with him on what he said.

Have you ever heard of paragraphs? You should use them; they make what you are trying to say a lot easier to read.

Matto has every right to be entitled to his opinion. If you don't like it, then that is just too bad. Quite frankly, he has a lot of valid reasons on why he criticizes the series, and I happen to agree with a lot of what he has to say. I'm also a big Kinnikuman fan, but being so doesn't stop me from expressing my complaints about it from time to time. As fans of a manga series, we are not expected or obligated to like everything the author has done. If we did, our discussions would be really boring because everyone would be in agreement with what the author has given us. This is a message board. You can't expect everyone to think exactly like you do.

Yeah it gets sickening when all you hear is people complain about a series over and over. You can hate it or Love it but I'm sick of coming on here reading peoples meaningless posts of nothing. It's wasted speech time of your life on worthless talk on how much you dread the series. Everyone can have their own opinion that's cool. But when it comes to the same people saying the same Sh-t over and over it gets old and it gets old fast. Honestly with all due respect I think if you're so unhappy with it, Find another "Fandom".

I'm spending a lot of time translating this and I honestly don't want to hear people complain about the series I'm busting my ass on and that's really F-cked Up that people would do that. First of all, None of you could read Japanese only some from my knowledge on here. Second, You all should be grateful that someones taking the time to translate it and not leave you wondering what happens next. Lastly, I won't bust my ass and waste my time on people who don't appreciate the series that's Bullsh-t straight up. I'm gonna be using my precious time just so you can bash it honestly?

People don't have to think like I do that's true, But from my side when you're a translator and you do this for everybody. It's heart breaking when people don't appreciate the series and they talk bad about it, Bashing it for all it's worth saying "why couldn't this be better". After, YOU, Yourself took your "Time" to translate this for them just so they could read it. You can think what you want to think but I'm a very noticeable person when it comes to how people react to something, And the reactions I seen on here about Kinnikuman were all mostly negative.

If that's the case, then hardly anyone is going to be reading your translations, since pretty much everyone here has expressed their problems or complaints with this series. What you have to understand, is that such criticism is normal. If you can't acknowledge anyone's critiques about a series you like, then quite frankly you are a blind fanboy. Every single manga is subjected to criticism; there are no exceptions, so why should Kinnikuman be any different? There is no such thing as a perfect author. They all have flaws in how they write or how they execute their stories.

As a side note, you shouldn't be so sensitive. If you get that bothered so easily by someone, then you need to take a chill pill. Matto is one of those guys that likes to have fun and I (along with many others) have no problem with that. He's just a joker and he shouldn't have to change the way he acts just because of your distaste towards his semblance. Having a good sense of humor always makes for better discussion.

You got "Big shots, Showoff's, Bragger's, Manipulator's, Liar's" the list goes on. I did my research on this forum I notice a lot of things from past members and how they were. I have no problem with anyone on here now most of you I'm cool with. I'm just not cool with people who keep complaining about Kinnikuman over and over, You might think that "sarcasm" can make the conversation seem interesting but in my eyes it makes the people look like trolls with nothing better else to do but complain. Meaningless posts of nothing? Once again, just because you don't agree with what that person says, it doesn't make what they've said meaningless. It seems evident to me that you are very biased and can't stand when one of your favorite series is critiqued.

There are complaints about every series. Do you want to know why? It's because opinions aren't universal, meaning that not everyone shares the same point of view. The translators for other mangas see complaints/criticism all the time, but do you see any of them getting temper tantrums over it? No, because they've learned to understand and accept that everyone has different opinions. It's not like they care what anyone has to say anyways, because it's the authors story and not theirs (big difference). They're doing the exact same thing as you, so why can't you just accept the way things are?

Bingo. That's exactly what Matto is, a troll. He has professed being a troll so many times, so indeed there is no denying that. With that being said, you shouldn't take what he says so seriously, because it's obvious that he just jokes around very often. All I'm trying to tell you, is you shouldn't let little things like this discourage you from continuing your work. I think I can say that on behalf of everyone, we are all very appreciative for your efforts on translating this classic series. But you have to learn that every story is subjected to criticism, and that story is not yours, but the authors. No one is taking shots at you, but at the author and their story.
