After a long absence due to craziness at work, other art projects, and the embarrassment that follows finding out I effed up a forever yes contest, I’m back with my own contest and my tail between my legs.

To celebrate the release of 2 new (articulated) figures, I’m having a contest to give back to a community that has given me a lot of inspiration and help over the last few years.

First off, the goodies: 2 of the new figures in my Bad Bad Guys series, “Devil Blood” and “Royal Badness”. All 3 of the figures from series one of Bad Bad Guys (rejects/leftovers), and finally, a Golden Launchpad figure I sculpted and cast as gifts for the DuckTales season 2 wrap party. His foot didn’t get all the way cast, and while he can stand on his own, I didn’t want a crew member to get a club-footed Launchpad, so I held him back for one of you lucky so-and-so’s.

So what do you have to do to get the goods?

Respond with a short (or long, it’ll be a good way to get to know some of you better, it’s up to you) explanation on which toy series originally got you obsessed with little rubber guys (or just toy collection/reverence in general) and what about that line made them so special. I’ll pick the user who’s answer gives me the most feels.

I don’t know how long you usually let these run, but I’ll pick a winner a week from today unless you guys tell me that’s too long or short.

I remember my mother taking my brother and I on a weekend trip to Boston. Whilst there we went into a pharmacy and that was the first time I saw Monster In my Pocket. I got a 4 pack. I became obsessed with the line. I remember having a few MUSCLE I got from flea markets and church bizarres but never really got hooked on them. There was a decade after highschool where I didn't pay any mind to toys and such. After getting a degree in design and started actually making money, I bought every damn toy under the sun I had or wanted when i was younger. Now my fathers basement is overloaded with toys. Bought too many. First world problems..

I can remember walking the aisles of Kmart as a young boy and came across a little plastic trash can full of colorful M.U.S.C.L.E. figure and instantly was hooked. I never liked playing with the full size figures, even 3 3/4 figures were too big for me. In fact when I purchased GI Joe, Transformers, TMNT, etc. I usually would just play with the weapons and imagine the action in my mind. I was kind of a lonely child and had a huge imagination and never felt comfortable or satisfied with trying to play with the large figures.  As the years went by and more toylines came out for the mini figs line-Monster in my pocket, Battle Beasts, Army Ants, C.O.R.P.S., etc.- my love for mini figures continued. Now, the mini fig world is even bigger with many toy companies giving lines of mini figs from some of the toylines I loved playing with as a kid. In fact I just purchased some of my new favorite mini figure line the other day-Fortnight Battle Royale mini figures, and the joy from my childhood is ignited once again.

I got started with erasers in the 90's with erasers.  sculpted erasers, anyways. The school bookstore had them. Some friends and I would mosy on in, and walk out with more troops for our eraser armies. I still have mine from then. That's what started me. I still collect erasers. it was that line of bootleg gundam erasers and that robot with its arms up that no one knows what its from that got me. they also were around the same scale as muscle figures, so they wound up in that duty, too. Standing in as on lookers, or, as was often the case, generic mooks. except the arms up robot. those wound up on hostage duty. I had a good number of toys when I was little, but nothing grabbed me like those cheap erasers.

 

As a bonus, I also had creepy crawlers. That started my desire to try and make toys.
