Let's see..... If it is real, then good for him, I guess.

If he had no bids, doesn't he have to pay ebay fees on a 5000.00 buy it now listing?

If he has a winner, but non pay, what happens?

But maybe it is a real bid and someone knows how rare it is and really wants it.

who knows? I doubt very much if any of us will ever know one way or another, unless he miraculously comes up with another one 6 months from now....

Isn't this seller known for shilling his own auctions?

Would it be worth it to pay the fees and whatnot in order to "establish" that the figure in question is actually "worth" that much?

Also, aren't we to refrain from posting links to this particular sellers auctions. e+

I'm just sayin' is all.

Ebay fees on that would be $150. That's a lot to shell out just to establish a higher end value that might not even work in the long run.

edit: just noticed it was auction format, which would make it $100 in fees. Still a bunch.

Our glorious Milky Way is a tiny, infinitesimal speck of sand in this vast, incomprehensible universe. And somewhere in that Milky Way is our own solar system, less than one billionth of that speck of sand that is the Milky Way. And then there is our planet Earth, one hundred trillionth of that one billionth of that one speck of sand. And on this planet Earth there is DEV-0, an insignificant blemish with a lifespan too short to measure when placed in infinite time.

And you are here, with them, as so many specks of sand.

If it is real, the buyer is incredibly insane for buying a figure for $5000 or the seller is incredibly insane for selling a figure for $5000, or both are incredibly insane. ^_^

Either someone way overpaid for a SR or Alex had a buddy bid on it, to make it look like he really sold it for $5k.

If someone really bought it for $5k, good for Alex.

If this is more of Alex's dishonest and deceitful shenanigans, then whoopdidoo. ^_^ Not the first timer and won't be the last time.

Again, like I said. The sad thing is that because of Alex's track record, anything he does or anything associated with him will always be suspect.

Wow either someone has too much money to burn or they are nuts for paying that much for a small piece of rubber (or both)

Considering the sheer amount of feedback the bidder has, it's hard to imagine it's just a shill account of his unless Alex goes to an insane level of trouble to pull that sort of stuff off.

Like I said, wouldn't be the first time. You can do a board search fro arforbes and it'll pull up tons of his documented shenanigans.

This sums it all up, but my money is on him using one of his numerous eBay accounts - which I'm sure he would be quick to point out is perfectly ok with eBay.

Is there anyone still around from when collecting MUSCLE's was fun? ;)

If it's a fake bid, it is likely a ploy for attention. Alex hates not being the center of attention for this group. Alex has by far, the most obsessive MUSCLE collection out there (not that our collections aren't quite a bit obsessive as well, ha ha), but for Alex, most of the joy in collecting is being the center of attention. There have been very few days since he was banned, that he hasn't been on the board lurking. Either as a guest or under a fake account. He has even joined in, passing himself off as a newb and tried to bring himself up.

It's funny, but kind of sad at the same time. I was doing some lookups on Wiki a while back, and I came across this:

Hare's items

The following findings are for research purposes only, and are not used in clinical diagnosis. These items cover the affective, interpersonal, and behavioral features. Each item is rated on a score from zero to two. The sum total determines the extent of a person's psychopathy.[6]

Factor 1: Aggressive narcissism

1. Glibness/superficial charm
2. Grandiose sense of self-worth
3. Pathological lying
4. Cunning/manipulative
5. Lack of remorse or guilt
6. Emotionally shallow
7. Callous/lack of empathy
8. Failure to accept responsibility for own actions

Based on Alex's actions on this board (and off), I think that fits him to a tee.

It is really sad, that arguably, the most impassioned collector in this part of our hobby (M.U.S.C.L.E.s) won't stop lying to his fellow collectors and has no problem taking advantage of any one he can. The biggest thing about our group is the sense of community. Alex was never able to grasp that concept. For Alex, it is always about Alex.

What is even more sad, is that even after being caught and called out repeatedly, he refuses to change or even admit any wrong doing.

really though, if you care to take the time, you can do a board search and see what transpired. Best place to start is his user profile. There are links in his signature.

not necessarily, he can setup a "mutually agree to cancel transaction", he would no longer have to pay ebay fees. just the listing fee (like $2-$3) that's about it.

Wouldn't that give the buyer account and auto negative?

Nope, buyers can no longer get negatives. even back when they could it would be at the seller's discretion. You don't get a non-paying-bidder strike for mutual cancellation.

Unbelievably, you can still leave positive feedback after a mutually canceled transaction without a public record of the transaction being canceled.

well guys.... i sold my junk for 15 dollars an hour and placed the bid on this item. i think 5000 dollars is a fair price. i mean, its only like 6 times the value of my car. i can ride this little rubber guy for a few years. actually, there's no way anyone would pay 5 grand for a few inches of flesh. not even an hour with the hottest hooker. i dont buy this crock for a second.

Not directly related because I hate talking about that asshole, but isnt it ridiculous that buyers can only recieve positive feedbacks? I have only left 2-3 neg feedbacks my whole entire ebay career and all of them were for non paying buyers, its effing ridiculous they can bid worry free and decide not to pay for an item now if they dont want it. As far as this figure goes, considering the seller, something is shady, I dont know what, but its garanteed to be tainted in some way.
