pretty cool little set of monsters i found about a year ago at a flea market. looks pretty basic from the front, but my favorite part is the back.


apparently the "monsters" in this series are based on actual aliens "encountered" throughout the world! pretty interesting that the makers of this line chose to depict "real" aliens rather than just create a whole bunch of new ones. then again, the whole "really encountered" bit could be a put on, so who knows? unfortunately, i got stuck with some dumb little italian pod person alien from the mid 70s. anyone have any of the others?

South America appears to have the best alien encounters, Venezuela is especially cool looking but Brazil is fun in his oddness.

I have Bristol Lake and Kelly-Hopkinsville. I got them in random lots.

They do NOT grow. They do, however, change color.

The Arizona chick kinda looks like the Kinkeshi sculpt of Bibinba.

Wow nice, I know I've seen the Bristol Lake one in random lots twice in the last 2 years. And I myself managed to snag a Pascagoula one myself. I need to see if changes color too. Sweet find on the packaging I was wondering what toy line he was from. If I remember correctly it says "Hiro" on his back.

I think I remember having a set of those as a kid...let 'em grow TOO big and they broke apart...bummer. Very cool!

I think I may have pm'd you about these guys before. I have the Bristol Lake, Kelly-Hopkinsville and Venezuela guys in hard plastic. Do yours have japanese characters on their backs or any other copyright info? I'll have to see if mine change color...I'll also be a bit disappointed if they don't actually grow to 100 times their earthen size.

Both of mine have "HIRO" in english on the back.

After checking this forum, I hunted my Pascagoula Alien down and threw him in hot water. He changed from a mustardy brown to mustardy yellow. Kind of a shame, I think I like the yellow better. Now he rests on my Bathroom sink. I always put color changing toys on my bathroom sink to entice my guests into washing their hands... I know a lot of slobs.

I remember getting a pack at Toys R Us in the late '80s that had the Japan guy and the Nebraska guy. I never grew them, just kept them with my MIMPS and MUSCLES and the like, but they eventually got all melty and started oozing onto other toys because of whatever material they were made of. I sadly had to toss 'em--they weren't salvageable after a while.

Bumping this old topic because I did a LittleWeirdos post on these and am really interested in finding out more about the hard plastic color change versions. A few of you guys mentioned you owned some. I've personally never come across any, but would love to add some to my collection.

 

In addition to more details about their origins, I'd love to see any other photos that anyone can provide (of either the hard plastic or grow versions).
