I'm getting psyched about the new figures about to come out!

Here's a picture of the "new" Jedi Force Chewie with Wookie Helicopter. (Although the description at Hasbro.com describes it as being the Chewie with Wookie Action Tool.) Truthfully, the only difference appears to be a lighter-colored nose, darker bandolier strap, and green pouch. And though those changes are minor, I really like them -- especially the lighter nose.

Here's a review by Tortle of the original Jedi Force Chewie. Without a doubt, it's one of my favorite toys.

After seeing Revenge of the Sith yesterday, I started thinking about some of the Hasbro toys that didn't get any screen time. I assume the characters were edited out of the movie at the last minute. The characters that I didn't see include:

Mon Mothma
Ask Aak
Meena Tillis
Luminara Unduli
Shaak Ti (scenes with her were definitely filmed)
Yoda on Can-Cell

I noticed that some of the Clonetrooper designs weren't readily visible, either:
Commander Bacara
Clone Commander
AT-TE Tank Gunner
Clonetrooper with Jetpack (although I suspect it's just an Expanded Universe toy)

This list might change, as I might end up seeing some of the characters in the background somewhere, but that's a large number of figures and a lot of resources on Hasbro's part for characters with no screen time.

I think these were some of the troops with Ki-Ad-Mundi. I think.

I feel more sure about Commander Bacara.

Mon Mothma's scenes were cut, but you do see her on the landing platform. Same with Ask Aak and Meena Tillis.

Luminara Unduli is visible for two seconds on Kashyyk - her death scene was cut.

Shaak Ti had two separate death scenes filmed, as well as some dialogue and a plot point. They were all cut.

Just about all of the clonegtroopers are visible in tarrfful's introduction scene.

The Utapau Warriors were also cut, too.

While there has been a plethora of new stuff released, or scheduled for release, these Clone War figures really caught my eye – specifically Saesee Tiin.

I’m really happy to see him get this “treatment” especially with the broken horn. But shouldn’t he be in pilot gear? I don’t remember seeing him except during a space battle.

While all of the other figures/statues are fairly representative of what we saw in the cartoon this is the first figure, in my opinion, that is a complete departure. And while I’m happy to see him, I’m still a little disappointed.

But we are talking about Hasbro and Star Wars.

More hologram figures.

I've never been a fan of the hologram figures, and Hasbro has beaten it to death. But I do see a potential bright spot. There is a Stormtrooper figure which, of course, I'll have to find.

What is Godbeast was able to make various colors of the Stormtrooper? That could be a brand new army for me to start!

Although I agree that the hologram idea has been overdone, I think these little figures are relatively cool. But what would have been awesome would be to include one of the new 2" Unleashed figures.

The holos are not that bad, though, compared with some of the other figure freebies we've gotten in the past. I'd rate the freebies thus far in this order:

1) Environment-specific stands (some ROTS and OTC figures): I like these because they're great for diorama purposes, especially since we get few (if any) playsets.
2) Generic stands (Saga): They're generic and boring, but very useful.
3) Holo Figures (next year's waves): They're not as cool as they could be, but it's pretty neat to get a free MUSCLE-sized Star Wars figure.
4) Commtech Chips (POTF, E1): Although collectors hated them, at least they were stands. The Commtech technology actually worked pretty well with a few characters, like Threepio and Artoo.
5) Jedi Force File (POTJ): What a waste... all those Jedi Force Files went straight into the garbage.

Am I missing any?

You’ve done a nice job ranking ordering the Hasbro offerings, but I think you did miss two Nate.

First there are the Flashback photos, which are one step above the Force Files. What are you supposed to do with them once they are removed from the card?

Then there were the Freeze Frames. I actually kind of like these, but the problem becomes displaying them. Hasbro did offer some crap to use with these, but I would have preferred something that would have displayed the slides with a light behind it. Kind of a LightBright with a slide holder. In my opinion this ranks after the Commtech chips, but in front of the Flashbacks and Force Files.

My five “Fan Choice’s” would be…

1. The Tonnika Sisters
This would be a little something extra, kind of a buy one get one free. Luckily it would be basically the same figure with a different paint job. They’ve made many of the Cantina Aliens, but there’s that old rumor that these women can’t be turned into figures because they own the rights to their likeness. I just think it would be a welcome addition to Cantina dioramas everywhere.

2. Biggs in his Cadet uniform
I believe this would be interesting because it’s a character we know, but from the cut footage of Ep. IV. I’ve always thought it was a pretty cool look.

3. Alien Rebel Pilot in an Orange Uniform
I think this could capitalize on the Rogue Squadron comic book. I’m really open to any species of alien, but I would want it to be fairly exotic. Twi’lek is the one I would be most interested to see.

4. Nicely articulated Stormtrooper in a neutral stance.
Too often the Stormtroopers are in a specific pose, or they have articulation but it is geared toward only a few poses. This would be a completely neutral figure. I’m thinking neutral in terms of GI Joe. The figure should look good in any pose.

5. A Holiday Special figure
I would either want Boba in an all new sculpt, with all new paint, that mirrors that cartoon character as much as possible or Chewie’s family (I think a Wookie 2-pcak would be possible). It would be nice to see that LFL still has a sense of humor and can laugh at their mistakes. A figure from this “Special” would only appeal to some people, but I think it would be a nice gesture.

Now we can submit our ideas. Your ideas are below.

Well, all of my suggestions are from the original trilogy, which is what I think most fans are interested in. I would go with:

Ewok Hornblower / Ewok mom with cub two pack
Ewoks have been scarce, which is a shame since I love the guys. I think the hornblower would be great, since he's one of the few Ewoks that did something distinctive. Also, the Ewok mom with cub would be nifty since a bunch of cubs had a nice, big close-up in the movie.

Arcona with Cantina table
The first Cantina alien seen on screen, I always thought this guy deserved a figure. Some artistic license might need to be taken with its body, though, since I don't think it was even conceptualized.

R5-D4 with Jawa
For God's sake, fans have been clamoring for a new R5-D4 since the first horrible rocket-firing one was released. But the astromech droid alone wouldn't be worth the $5, so a new Jawa should be tossed in for good measure.

Hermi Odle
This dude is butt-ugly, but he would make a nice and distinctive addition to a Jabba's Palace diorama, and a nice companion piece to Ephont Mon.

Toryn Far with Hoth Base console
I usually wouldn't go for human background characters, but I think this figure would go well with General Rieekan. Also, it would give fans another sorely-needed female character.

Out of the list, I would probably go with the Ewoks since they've been largely ignored. Also, it would be nice to get something other than a Wicket rehash.

Two of my picks, it turns out, are on slate for next year according to this list from Rebelscum.com: Arcona and R5-D4. I've heard rumors about the Tonnika Sisters, but then again, we've been hearing rumors about them for the past 5 years or so.

Actually, instead of any of my picks, I voted for Roron Cobb, the Ithorian Jedi from the Clone Wars cartoon. It's a long shot, especially with Hammerhead on tap for 2006, but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm usually pretty negative about the concept of Expanded Universe figures, but I love the Ithorian Jedi concept.

Hasbro has posted pics of next year's Cantina wave:
http://www.starwars....ws20051219.html

Not too shabby... it looks like they're new, to a certain extent. I think Luke and Han reuse some old parts but have new face sculpts, and I'm not sure about Vader and the Sandtrooper. But at least Hammerhead is a totally new resculpt! ;) And thank god they got rid of his super-huge, inappropriate-for-the-character blaster rifle.

Hasbro is really putting out some great product next year... certainly an improvement over the ROTS waves.

I think we saw this at the same time.

The clear peg warmer is Garindan. But Hem Dazon, Hammerhead, and R5-D4 look great!

Hopefully the Sandtrooper ships in good numbers.

And the Senate chamber battle pack is kind of cool. You get the shock troopers and a Senate pod, too bad you're stuck with a shizznitty Yoda & Sidious. It might be worthwhile to buy a few of them to make a small Senate playset.

Has there ever been an official action figure of Biggs Darklighter from the cut scenes? Not the Rebel Pilot version. Or the 2 Harvey Korman characters from the Holiday Special, Krelman and Chef Gormanda, or any of the Ralph McQuarrie preproduction art looks of the main cast? I've included a pic.

No, and you shouldn’t expect to see any. The best hope for Biggs would be as a Fan’s Choice figure. There was a McQuarrie Stormtrooper, which was a success, but I personally don’t expect to see any more. And Lucas still tries to keep the Christmas Special hidden, so I can definitively say there won’t be any figures made from it.

I hope there is a demand for him.

That sucks.

According to this pic, they are on the way.

I just realized that 2006 is the 10 year anniversary of the new age of Star Wars toys! So what do you guys think will be the future of Star Wars figures? With ROTS over and done with, do you think that the Star Wars market will implode like it did a few years after ROTJ?

Personally, I think that Star Wars will live on for at least another few years. The collectors' market is pretty favorable and the new television properties in 2007 will inject a bit more life into the line. However, I don't see Star Wars lasting another 10 years. Many of the "old timers" (i.e., those collecting since the POTF2 days) are starting to tire and the potential for new and interesting stuff is dwindling. I think Hasbro's Star Wars line will be effectively cancelled in 4-6 years. Any other predictions?

I think 2007 will bring a Thirtieth Anniversary 12 Blue Ray DVD boxed set and a TV show that will fail after one season. The toyline will then end by 2009.

Actually I can see it going strong for quite awhile, or at least being decent. There are the upcoming TV shows, possibly an anniversary re-release, maybe a DVD box set, and possibly even a 3D Star Wars.

I think the difference from the original trilogy is that Lucasfilm realizes how profitable SW fans can be. I think they will keep the fire alive this time, because it would be stupid to stop making easy money.

If anything I imagine that Star Wars will turn into a Star Trek type franchise. There will always be merchandise available, and the figure sales will go up and down but the sales will stay consistent enough.

But speaking for myself, Hasbro better pump some life into the line because I don’t see myself buying anywhere near the amounts that I used to buy.

That's pretty much how I see Star Wars turning out but Star Trek is more or less dead in terms of toys. There are some toys here and there (the Art Asylum figures and Johnny Lightning ships) but they're few and far between and the toy lines aren't really sustained or consistent.

Hasbro better pump some life into the line because I don’t see myself buying anywhere near the amounts that I used to buy.

I'm hearing a lot of people say stuff like this, and I feel the same way. (In fact, looking at the line for the next year, I really see me only getting about five figures - AT-AT Driver, Hammerhead, Commander Cody, Utaupan Clone, and Chief Chirpa.) But how would Hasbro be able to pump life into the line? So much has been done with it that there's really not much new that can be done. Maybe Hasbro could make some updated playsets or vehicles, but neither are strong sellers.

But Star Trek had successful TV shows as well as the films. Star Wars on TV hasn't. Holiday Special, Droids, Ewoks, Ewok Adventure, Caravan of Courage. Clone Wars cartoon was successful, but their overall TV track record hasn't been. But anything's possible.
