Also besides Alex and myself who else owns these super rares?

Damon owns a BHS and Midgetron owns a SHA. Midegtron used to own two SHA but I convinced him to sell me one of his for $100.

Though I have no Dought in my mind that DM is MUSCLE plastic I still think all super rares are some kind of Japanese figures made out of MUSCLE plastic

SHA and BHS are 100% completely authentic M.U.S.C.L.E. figures, right down to the unmistakable smell. Trust me, as a keen observer and extreme analyst, I guarantee it without a doubt in my mind.

Oh, and to add...

I believe the Super Rares were part of a test run of different molds, or they were recalled for some odd reason. Either that or they were prototypes of a few test molds for the M.U.S.C.L.E. line.

Ok guys, remember this. Just because muscles as we knew them as children are the American ones and not the Japanese ones, don't forget that all our muscles were "MADE IN JAPAN". I say those three words will explain alot of our questions.

I doubt that the America-bound muscles had their own factory. Now consider how many muscles this factory probably churned out in a day, and how many figures were packaged in a day. If you consider this, you'll see that the chances of a small amount of muscles being cast in the wrong plastic and shipped to America are pretty good.

If you disagree with me, I WILL CRUSH YOU!!!

I agree with Tortle. The company had to recall some of them for the small parts early in the run but some figures were already released. DM might have been a test or a figure that they didn't like for some reason. SC might have had the same recall problem or it was sent out as a special figure. Too bad we can't ask someone that worked for them at the time. I have a question about the poster. How long after muscles were released did the poster come out? A longer time span will help explain why the 'recalls' didn't make it. I think.

Now, as I remember, Mattel tried to "refresh" interest in the line by making the colored figures (which leads on to the whole 8-or-9 conspiracy  ). Maybe there was a proposed second MUSCLE line, which would have included such gimmicks as "moving parts" and new molds. Several of the figures were already manufactured after the creation of the poster, to begin production. However, the line was scrapped because of small pieces (SHA and BHS) or market research on the "bland color" of the figures, and rather than waste the already-made figures, they were circulated into the existing population, making room for the line of colored MUSCLEs.

That explains their "authenticity" and rarity. They were early productions of a never-seen new line of MUSCLE.

Someone who won the third off of ebay owns the third SHA, but I think we have lost contact with this wnning bidder.

Midgetron got a hold of two by bidding high on ebay. He had won his first one, then saw the second in another auction and bid high enough to win that one too. He got lucky and won both.

maybe somebody melted down some m.u.s.c.l.e. figures, cast a mold of kinkishi, and made them/ circulated them. considering the amount of 'customizing' going on now... who's to say some guy in kentucky doesn't have a basement full of those things he put together himself?

just an idea.

Quite possible, but...

For a moment let us assume that DM, BHS, and SHA are all 100% authentic MUSCLE’s.

Where do you think they came from?

probably just m.u.s.c.l.e. plastic thrown into kinkishi molds for prototypes... for a board meeting or something. to see how the figures would translate. the properties of the plastic m.u.s.c.l.e.s are made out of is quite different than kinkishi rubber. maybe they wanted to see if that would lead to difficulty in translation from plastic to plastic?

Why make the most intricate figures the prototypes?
Wouldn’t it be cheaper and quicker to make a more “basic” figure?

That’s why it’s hard for me to believe the prototype story.

well, from what i've seen, the drunken master is a pretty basic figure.

but we'll use the argument, "why make the more intricate figures?"

like i said, maybe they were trying to figure out where their boundaries were. maybe they were trying to find the limitations that m.u.s.c.l.e. plastic might have in comparison to the kinkishi rubber. so instead of doing really basic figures, and working up to the intricate, they possibly could have figured; "if we do the more detailed ones, it's a foregone conclusion that the more basic sculpts will work."
my guess is, that they were tests of sort.
just an idea.

for what my newbie opinion is worth, i think it makes very much sense that BHS and SHA were not mass produced because they are a choke hazard. theres many ways that a few figs could make it out into the market. an easy theory is that the figs were made and then it was decided that they were unsafe for kids. is it a coincidence that the ONLY 2 muscles with small detachable parts are extremely rare? and while i havent held the drunken master, it does seem to have a uniquely pointy staff that could possibly puncture a clumsly kids eyeball. it seems pretty obvious to me why these figs were not produced on large scale when you compare them to the other figs in the line. how they made it out at all will probably never be known.

also, other countries have different safety standards, so if south american muscles are made of the same plastic as american muscles, then they may have been produced there. but i have no idea what s. american muscles look like.
