It could be the positioning but it looks slightly smaller to me. Vader, do you have any other purple M.U.S.C.L.E.s to compare it to for color and consistency? If you did get a repro you'd better file that complaint ASAP.

Dude, you make me laugh.......at you.

Wasn't it Doc that was selling one, and his claw picture looked a little off? I believe it was because of the picture was making it look like there were grey flecks on the claw, but it turns out the claw was in minty mint shape.

I think its the angle making it look smaller....maybe

I don't have a clue about these claws, but doesn't the 2nd finger from the left on the purple one look like it isn't bent like the others? Probably supposed to be that way, just a difference I noticed.

The second pic looks more legit than the first. The first looks like one of those repro claws from the guy that made the magenta and grape claws recently. The color is lighter and the bumps are less detailed. The second pic has the darker tone and appears to be consistent with the others. I would say first pic repro. Second pic real. Still I think an up close pic of the purple and a known good claw would decipher the difference. But the color on the first pic looks off. The beginning of the finger nails look smoothed over along with the bumps.

What makes it even more weird is the original pic from the auction looks more legit than the second photo. Based on the auction and third photo I would say legit. Based on second repro. Hope there is no Tom Foolery going on.

If the rubber consistency is exact, then it is legit. Congrats!!!

That is a fake.
He looks just a tiny bit smaller. Of course, more pictures would help. Some nice side by side pictures.
But it's the story. It just reeks of bullshit. He finds this one little figure. Is it garbage? No. I'll just throw it on eBay. Then there's a limit to how much money he can receive. Does he try and collect it all? No. Maybe two split payments? No. Just give me the max ($500) and I'll be on my way. And the best part! He's giving half to his soup kitchen. This is just the most magical story ever.
I would be unsure, but leaning towards fake, if it was only the pictures. But the pictures plus the story. That thing is fake.

Damn. Lots of negativity around this. Maybe post a pic or two of this claw next to another claw, front and back?..Unless you're happy with it, then congrats and good for you

Why is doubt negative?
Why question anything at all? As long as someone is happy!
We should want to talk about cool stuff. Scoring a Purple #153 is cool, but for such a weird auction - why wouldn't we want to talk about it? If he's happy, that's awesome. I've seen a lot of really stupid and really happy people - but I wouldn't trust them to take out my garbage. Clearly it's not that same thing here. But if I was in his shoes, then I'd love some honest feedback - instead of sycophant praise.

The tone of some of the posts just seem negative to me. Reading the posts as they are, and I'm not singling anyone out, it sometimes comes off, at least to me, as if people are accusing Vader/Matt of some kind of dishonesty. Just my opinion

If you have ANY doubts at all why not just send it to veers? I am sure he'd be happy to inspect it for you(and everyone else)and tell you whether it's real or just a GREAT repro. It would probably cost you all of 10 bucks shipping both ways. It would make a great UofM article after the fact.

Has the buyer had any doubts yet? If not, then why is this an open subject of debate? Are only a handful of people here able to tell if it's real or not, or is the buyer able to tell if it's real by how it feels, color/flashing, smell, .....?
I think the buyer owes LRG a thank you for generating all the doubt because there is a good possibility that had an affect along with the Propay issue as well.

I think everybody is right on about their feelings here. No doubt PurpClaw always brings in the posts, bad&good. Thank you to those who are generally happy for any collector who is happy with his/her collection. If this claw is in fact "fake" it's the best damn fake ever faked IMO and I'd still be glad to have it. I respect Veers' knowledge of this hobby, as there are plenty here that have put a whole lot more work into this hobby then I have. There is just a staunch difference to me between respecting someone's opinion and giving a crap. I simply don't give a crap(and yes it came off negative)about somebody's bold assessment because they fancy themselves the "know-all" on the subject. I have definently decided to compare the claw with somebody else's when I get the opportunity face to face and claw to claw. What I have no plans of doing is publicly authenticating my auction purchase because of dickish(sorry, but that's how I feel) behavior. Im just a mild manner collector, not an expert, not a flipper, not a bragger or boaster, hell....I'm barely a poster
Only reason I even brought up who I was and the story of the auction was because of the interest involved. I'm generally pretty private guy.
Again......Thanks to all who have an upbeat mentality on collecting and collectors.
The rest of ya, well...........good luck with that.

Agreed, Matt knows his shit and so do most of us that have been around a long time. I can 100% tell a fake from a real one, especially how many SR's I have had the opportunity to hold
As someone said earlier in this thread, if Jay is bidding on it then it must be real, I do my homework folks, I was taught well......

I'm always surprised that people think that talking about things, asking questions, and having doubt is bad. I shouldn't be, but I am.

The statement above is the thing that better highlights the problem I have. Just trusting someone is ludicrous. I wish people would explain why we should believe them - regardless of the issue (the Claw or the next issue). I tried to explain why I believed it to be fake, based on the information in this thread. That's they same stuff everyone else has to go on.
If there is a magic way to know "the truth," then share it. Or teach it. Or provide the magic insight, even if you don't want to give away the "magic trick."
We can talk about positive vs. negative until we're blue in the face. It seems like the de facto response to many questions and discussions. But that doesn't matter. If you can teach, or show, or help, then that's positive. Just my feeling.

When the buyer says it's real then you're not teaching, showing, or helping, by continuing to beat a dead horse. It's not difficult to feel the claw in comparison of other figures, check the smell, check the color, check for flashing around the figure, check the markings.......
It's really not difficult and a PhD in M.U.S.C.L.E. isn't needed to make sure a figure is legit. Every reproduction figure I have is much more harder or softer than the real stuff. The claws I received from Marty feel like a rock in comparision to the the real ones.

Then maybe I'm asking to be taught.
Knowing the difference between resin and a MUSCLE figure is like knowing the difference between sand and snow.
But if there's some way to do great "homework" to uncover the authenticity, then I'd love to know. Even if it's just buy and use the eBay Buyer Protection, then I'd like to know. I'm open to learning. I'd love to learn something new that I didn't before. I'd love for someone to show me how I'm wrong in my thinking it is a fake. Honestly, I don't care about the figure - but I'd love to know how to discover the authenticity without touching it or inspecting it.
