I figured we could share pics of our collections and talk about these guys here.
This would also be a great place for Toypedia to use as a reference,If they ever want to cover this toy line.
I am currently only collecting the Flesh colored figures,Here are some of my shots.
I also have a handfull of Bootlegs and a re-issue,I will be posting shots of these soon.
Thanks to Matthewf1tz on having me start this.

Kitarou is an awesome character. A half-goblin child who was born from his dead mother's grave, and who battles less friendly monsters with the help of his also-dead father, who rotted away down to a walking, talking little eyeball that rides in Kitarou's empty left eye-socket.
Hardcore as all get-out, but a cherished children's franchise. Kitarou's fame and classical status in Japan is comparable to Mickey Mouse in the states.

If anyone is interested in the names and mythology behind these monsters, nearly all of them (and dozens more) appear in the aforementioned gameboy advance game, which I happen to have a complete sprite guide for on my own website:

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for posting this info, i only have a few of the figures and they have been some of my favs since before i knew who they were, but i think its even more enjoyable now that i have a little backstory about them. and your site has some neat graphics too!
all i can say is i wish mickey mouse was 1/2 as cool!
Should work now!

it came in the mail today and i was happy that the ghosts look cool. the photo doesnt really do them justice since they are white but in person they are very cool. they are about 1 - 1.5 inches tall, maybe a little more flexible than a muscle.
here they are...

the painted figures...

the box came with 12 of these plastic eyes. each had 1 painted figure and 2 ghosts inside except 1 which only had 1 painted figure and the larger fleshtone body that can wear any one of the plastic eyes (there were 3 of each eye design in the case)...

Umbrella monster - Karakasa (also called Kasa-Obake, a haunted umbrella)
Centipede - Mukade (a centipede more powerful than a dragon)
Bull headed spider - Ushi-Oni (a giant beast that emerges from the sea)
Long necked woman - Rokurokubi (enjoys frightening people with her extending neck)
One eyed, one legged head - Ippon Datara (a hopping mountain demon)
Legless Skeleton - Gasha dokuro (the souls of the starved who come together into a skeletal giant)
Old man hunched over pail - Azukiarai ("Azuki bean washer" - a ghost that makes scrubbing noises)
If anyone is interested, here are some cool and catchy opening and closing sequences from the various series (there have been more than five of them since the early 60's)
And here you can watch up to nine subtitled episodes (the tenth remains untranslated for whatever reason) of Hakaba Kitaro:
http://free4anime.com/?s=kitaro
-This is a brand new, darker, more adult Kitaro series faithfully adapting the earliest Manga chapters, which were more horror oriented than action. The artwork is gorgeous! The stories are pretty engaging, too. The first episode is a must-watch for anyone who likes horror or monsters in general.
The Mad Martian eyeball store is also selling a kitaro product, the Medama Oyaji stacking figures!
http://www.madmartia...e_menu_toys.htm
I actually bought a set of these off ebay the other day, which should be arriving shortly. Same thing but with a lot more figures to stack up (I'll be giving a few to friends) including an "angry eye" version exclusive to the larger set.
I'll have to get a pix of mine up when I get back home to Texas. The little dude that's all head & mustache is my favorite (or is he a sheep hound?)
I missed this question!
He's a Keukegen, a monster featured in a book of spirits from centuries ago:
http://www.monstrope...ienKeukegen.jpg
Its name is a complex Japanese pun that simultaneously means something hairy and something rarely seen, so the Keukegen's whole theme is that nobody sees or catches it long enough to find out what's under the hair. In some translations it's also capable of making people sick, and appears in dark, damp places like some kind of mold phantom.
