There were three types of 4-packs:

(1) All Flesh
(2) Flesh and Colors
(3) All Color

Which colors can be found in the Flesh/Color combo 4-packs, and which colors can be found in the all color 4-packs?

Thanks!

If we disregard Satan Cross for a moment, might it be possible that MUSCLEs were produced in the colors Flesh, Red, Purple, and Dark Blue very early in the line, i.e., the beginning? Or do we know for a fact that colors were produced much later?

Well this picture could support both sides of this argument.

You’ll notice that the 4-Pack has Flesh, Dark Blue, and Red. The 10- and 28- Packs have the other colors.

To me, this says that all the colors were produced at the same time.

To me, this says that all the colors were produced at the same time.

Or at the very least, a bunch of samples/prototypes in all the colors were produced.

Hm, maybe the faulty MUSCLE plastic theory doesn't need to be chucked out the window!

Furthermore, if we assume a bunch of flesh and colored samples were produced, as opposed to simultanious full-production of flesh and colors, it explains why Satan Cross is not found in color.

In other words, Part 13, Tree 2 was chosen to be made into Red as a sample. They did it and it worked, thus the Red Geronimo. However, when they began full production, they (1) had problems with the Gerinamo cavity, or (2) Mattel/Bandai decided not to produce that sculpt for some reason.

On the other hand, haha, if we assume that the first run included a full-production sized run of all colors, and then later, they did a second run also including colors, this might explain why some trees are more common in one color, and harder to find in another.

The double dip theory.

While “samples” and non-produced figures/toys have shown up in catalogs before, I doubt this is the case with MUSCLE. Mattel had seemingly given the MUSCLE line less of a push because entirely new product was not introduced and the number of pages was reduced in the catalog.

They only thing from the catalog that differs from the final product is the Pre-Pack. Check out the bottom of this page for more information.

While I might entertain the idea of samples being made for the 1986 catalog, the lack of “push” in 1987 doesn’t support new samples being made. Which, to me, says color samples weren’t ever made.

Alright, I've just spent a good hour or so reading over all the old muscle Color code threads. You know the ones with all that gibberish about Trees, and parts, and stuff. First off, my mind is completely boggled at the fact that my brain thought of all that stuff. LOL! But anyhow. One of the last things I remember discussing, before I burned out my brain stems thinking about that flood of new info we all pulled together, was what colors came first, and whether there was a pattern to packaging the figures or whatnot.
Thinking about half and half packs something came to mind. I think it was Jkaris who brought it up about the most abundant colors Red, Purple, and DarkBlue. He speculated that they produced these three colors then the other colors. Anyways, Maybe they produced colors in waves of 4 after the initial Flesh run(I know this stuff is posted somewhere). Now this is just some guessing. I would need to know what colors were packaged together most often. But for Example say...

1st run = Flesh
2nd run = Flesh, Red, Purple, DarkBlue
3rd run = Red, Purple, Orange, Green
4th run = Darkblue, Light Blue, Green, Magenta
5th run = Light Blue, Magenta, Orange, Salmon

Now my point is basically going toward the Half/Half packs....Were any of the Flesh figures the same sculpts as The colored figs they were packaged with? For instance say #1 was made in Dark Blue, Was there any Flesh #1's in any Half/Half 4 packs? I'm trying to figure out if they took half the trees and kept making them in flesh, instead of colors for the Half packs. It's 2 a.m., and I'm having trouble putting this in to comprehensible words. So I hope this makes sense, cause at the moment I know what I'm trying to get across, but can't tell if it's working. :D Help.

Cool. I wasn't sure if this is what you were asking about, cause we didn't get into sculpts or anything in this thread.

Awesome Jon! I'll be glad to break down the info I might can get from them. I'm hoping to see a bigger picture.

You’re probably on to something here. But I think actual production locations have to be factored in too. The figures were actually produced in Japan and China by Bandai. Perhaps Japan produced Flesh, Red, Purple, and Dark Blue. This allowed them to ship these figures first, while their Chinese factories took longer to ship because of going through customs twice.

Then once Flesh was dropped, all the factories started producing all the colors. Just a thought.

Cool Jon. Soupie's title was better anyways.

Veers, are we even positive they produced muscles or kinkeshi in both Japan and China? Wasn't there a post in one of your "Search for Muscle Answers Threads" about that? That would be interesting to figure out. But if they had 2 different factories making them, each factory would still probably have only had half of the molds. So one could have been making Fleshies and the other one colors during the Half/Half packs. Hopefully we will find something out of the 4 pack info, once we get Johnnys pics.

Yes, I'm sure. I picked that information up when I was talking to Mattel, Bandai, and/or Bandai Japan. It's somewhere on my site, but I know that's where I got the information.

EDIT –
My question to Bandai-Japan:

1.) Specifically where did Bandai manufacture the toys in Japan?

Bandai-Japan’s Response:

1.) We requested certain Japan vendors who have factories both in Japan and China. For the actual factory location, we do not have the data in our database, as at that time, we did not store the data in our computer.
