I've got a different figure than my usual up for review today! A figure from one of the McFarlane toy lines.

This particular figure, Hoof, comes from the "Total Chaos" line. Which, to my knowledge, is an original product of theirs. (As in they didn't buy the license from anyone). From what I gather, there are two factions fighting each other, (Good Vs. Evil), and so they've all got a bunch of warriors from across the universe to fight as their champions. Sure, whatever. That works for me!
I discovered this figure just the other day, actually. I stopped into my local comic shop and they recently stocked their shelves with some old McFarlane merchandise they had found. This figure in particular instantly struck a cord with me because his insanely Battle Beast-esque appearance.

The armor is a little above and beyond what a battle beast currently wears, but I picture this as a more sort-of realistic approach. Essentially Hoof has pieces of a tank strapped to different parts of his body. This also goes for the cannon mounted above his head, which is a tank turret. More importantly about this figure is the attention to some of the details. On his right shoulder, the pauldron has a bit of fencing or railing from what I assume was the top of the original tank. There's also a little grate, and the little hole the guys would get in or out of the tank from. All are painted nicely without any slop. Another silly little detail is that the top of the figure, underneath his actual firing cannon, it says "RY-NO". Plus, there are little battle-damaged spots where the brown tank paint has been scraped off to reveal a more metallic looking silver.

As far as articulation goes, this figure is relatively average. His wrists, waist, arms, legs, tail, (yes, tail), head and mounted cannon all move. His cannon and head actually slide backwards so that Hoof can return to his savage ways and once again run on all fours.

I have a few minor complaints about this figure. His fists are clenched, meaning you can't add any weapons to this figure at all. However, there looks to be enough room where a hole should be so I may drill one. So that's not a total draw-back, but still annoying. Secondly, they made his right shoulder pauldron so large that it can't really be move around when the cannon is close to it. So if you want to have some pose-ability without damaging the figure you need to put his cannon on his back. Lame. Finally, his missile launcher is an utter piece of crap. It's one of those "pull and release" ones, which I hate. Not only does it mean that the missile distance will stink, but it means if I move the figure around the missile is likely going to just slide out.
Over-all, my comic shop was asking a mere $10 for him. (I managed to get him in a trade anyway, so technically nothing for me!). And at that price, I consider him an awesome figure to add to my collection. But that brings up the final point of the review: Where to buy him. Unfortunately, unless your local comic/toy shop carries old stock you're unlikely to find him offline. Ebay generally asks around the $10 my shop asked also. He is fairly bulky though, so that may hike up your shipping fees!

Also of note is that they made a variant for this figure. He's a black rhino with an army green for the armor. His accessories, however, are poorly coloured a weird neon-like orange. Here is a link to that figure, (also in the same price-range).
