Well, yet another BHS has been discovered, this one complete with the peg not attached to the figure...

Please check attachments...

I personally did not discover this one, I only discovered it to be out there among other collections. A fellow M.U.S.C.L.E. collector who has had the figure since it was in the 4-Pack packaging contacted me today to ask me about it after seeing my collection of Super Rares on Nathan's M.U.S.C.L.E. page.

As you can see from the pics, it is complete, just broken free unlike any other seen before. Usually they are still in one peice or missing the center chest insert. The guy's name is Mike, and he told me he had it since he was a kid, and got it in a 4-Pack.

He did mention some red ink stains which may or may not come off, most likely not, but still looks to be in awesome shape and adds to the number of BHS figure discovered.

That is pretty cool. BHS is starting to become as common as SC hahahah. I wish. There seems to be quite a few of him floating around now though. That is cool he says he got it in a four pack. I wish we had more proof though. I'd love to get a four pack with a SR in it now days. Can you imagine how much Alex would pay for one? hahaha. If a regular SR can go for $900, a SR in a package he would pay $5000 for  I need to find one of those.

Hahaha! Indeed I would! Na, not really, but I do agree with you Doc, a 4-Pack with a Super Rae in it would be freaking awesome, and quite the collector's piece. Plus it would prove them to have been released in M.U.S.C.L.E. packaging.

One day we'll see one, just a matter of time...

Wow, very, very cool. :) And this is not directed just at Nachoz and Doc... but how many more people need to state that they got BHS or SHA in 4-packs before we simply believe BHS and SHA came in 4-packs! :( I mean seriously, why the eff would this guy feel the need to lie about it? It's not like we're talking about a UFO sighting or something. The guy has the freaking figure, and he had to have purchased it somehow -- he says he got it in a 4-pack. What's not to believe? Do we think it's a fake?

He has the figure, has had it since childhood, and says he got it in a 4-pack. I have no problem believing any of that. It all seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I just found out that this is Msugarman, quoted on Nathan's page right below me under the BHS Super Rare paragraph...

http://www.nathansmu...asp?menu=muscle

So is this indeed a new one or have we known about it for some time? I am not sure, but either way, it is cool that it surfaced! I think this is new info and a new figure becauce I do not remember seeing that info on Nate's page until I visited the page today. Nate, did you update your site recently?

That's just sweet! So since there are now what? 4 known to exist, then their value should have dropped right? Soooo if it was 900 bucks at number 2, then we could essentially make an estimate of value decrease by What? 33%? So now They are roughly worth about $600?

Even though I'm joking, I still can't manage to afford one. :( I can't wait to find my very first Super Rare at a thrift store or Fleamarket.

But Really! To actually know that someone has had a Super Rare since they were a kid is amazing! So many things could have happened to it in the past 20 years. However, I don't know if it is really a big deal that he knows he got it in a 4-pack. It's possible still that Super Rares could have been packed in 10 packs as well as the Quick, or Tube promotions. All the Part 21 Poster figures were packaged in 4 and 10 packs, so it is pretty feasible that any Rares from that Part would be packed the same way.

Please debate! It's been dry, and some good old fashion idea swapping would be refreshing. :)

Miscommunication on my part...I just got another email from the owner and he says the BHS is ink free! Looks like he was asking me how to clean off the red ink from his other figures, and I thought he meant the BHS had red ink. Not the case. So this one is looking to be very well kept, near perfect shape from the looks of the pics.

I know, and I agree that seeing one MIP would be the shizzle dizzle. It was just funny to open this thread and see the first response mentioning "proof."

For all I know, the guy did get it last year from a factory in Hong Kong...

Seriously, I wonder how much one would go for in a 4-pack?

Is it me or has the SR market dipped a little? no takers on a SHA for under $650...

I haven't updated the BHS coverage in quite a while, so I'm not sure when he contacted me. I think it's been in the past year, but I don't think it was within the past 4 or 5 months.

I think that there are so few people who are willing to pay that much for a super-rare that the values of the super-rares can be highly volatile. I mean, how many people would ACTUALLY pay $650 for a super-rare? There are plenty of us who say, "I would if I had the money," but realistically, how many people both 1) have that much disposable income, and 2) are willing to spend that much on a MUSCLE? Maybe as much as a dozen, but probably far less. Because there are so few, that means that the value can change a lot if one or more of those high-end collectors leave the hobby.

It's also less than a month after Christmas and if other collectors spend like I do for the holidays it can take a good few weeks to recover. High ticket items never seem to do as well in January as the rest of the year. It's simple economics.

So, this has been a total kick to read! I mean, it really is an honor to be a part of this conversation. i could not have known 20 years ago this conversation would be taking place.

About 2 years ago, i had the desire to bring all my muscles from PA to CA where i currently live. I thought my son would have fun with them. I had a freakin blast with these guys as a kid! no doubt, these and star wars were all i played with. (i am 32 now). i made a wrestling ring out of wood, nails and rubber bands. my parents did not buy the ring for me, plus i thought it was too small....and i did not like how you sit the guy in it. i had names for most of these guys...often similar to wrestling look-a-likes (hogan; road warriors; Rock n roll express). i used to use dracula blood on them. i made paper belts that were taped ever so carefully around their waists (i just saw one of those in the box last week!) So i brought them to CA. later, i decided to look them up on line to see what else i could learn about them. other than the blood, which i could wash off, they were in good shape. Ah, but robots don't bleed! Then i saw some are "super-rare" and worth a pretty penny. Imagine my utter shock as i saw what you guys call black hole sunshine, on the site! i mean, i have that freakin guy! no way! no way! Then i found him in the box...but he was missing the middle part (i literally remember pulling that piece off. he was one of my favorites and i could not decide if i wanted to do that or not! then i figured, fists could go thru him, so i should rip it off). Noah, my son (5th grade at the time_) was looking over my shoulders and he said, "dad, that piece is still in the box!" and he pulled it out (i also have all my star war weopons too). There it was...the punch out....still with the taggy piece attached to it. And so my love affair with muscle grew as strong as it was back in the day.

As for how i aquired this particular guy, i really dont recall. But i do know this. When the local K.B. toys were going out of business, they sold tons of muscles there. i hated the color ones, so i had my dad buy all he could of the pink ones. i remember spending 1.29 on the 4 packs...but that was a lot of money. I think they went lower than that. If i have about 230 today, i know my dad calculated over a hundred bux in muscle invested. So, we probably bought lots when they were .99 a pack. I bought MAYBE one trash can and MAYBE one 28 pack. thats about it. it may have come from one of those. More likely, it came from a 4 pack.

Since then, like all of you, i have become obsessed! I scan the web as you all do. I ask my old friends who had no idea how to take care of their toys. I read what i can about these little guys. And secretly (SHHH) i even had to have a few of the guys throw a few punches and clotheslines. Come on guys, you with me?

Anyway, thats the story. I love the feeling of having something so rare. I have arrowheads, pottery sherds (yes, it is spelled sherds) and i recently found a huge and ultra rare motero and matate (see my myspace page...sugardelic) in the local mountains which i left there, btw. But this guy takes the cake. i then hoped i had another rarity laying around! i mean, if i did get it in a pack, maybe there were 4 rare ones i a pack, right? so the other day, i laid out every single one of them. But to no avail. However, i only need like 15 to get a complete set (not including the rarities).

It cracked me up when, on nathans page, it said something like....we are not sure if these are muscles or not..." i started yelling at the computer with a big smile..."Yes! Yes! they are!". Anyway, the whole experience gave me a semi.....can i say that here?

Thanks arforbes for uploading the pic i sent you! i did not expect to see this here.

Finally, how many of us OWN a super rare? can we get a list of collectors of those who actually have one or more? Or has that already been done. I am ever so curious. hope no one fell asleep reading this.-----Mike------

Welcome, Mike, and thanks for the narrative. To me, this just indicates that as much as all us "hard core" collectors have been documenting and searching for rare MUSCLE figures, there are likely many more out there tucked away in closets, attics, and basements waiting to be discovered (and sold on eBay  ).

Take the coin collecting community for instance -- there are hundreds of coin collectors out there documenting and searching for rare coins. They speculate, research, and discuss, often spending big bucks on rare coins. I, on the other hand, have never once bothered to research rare coins, nor have I even considered searching my huge stash of saved coins for anything rare or valuable. If I ever did find a rare coin, I'd likely sell it as soon as possible, and wouldn't suddenly become a coin collector.

Mike seems to be the exception here, because he cherished his MUSCLE figures even before he knew he had a rare figure, but most rare figures have come to us via people who really don't care for MUSCLEs, but had them in childhood. This is why I tend to believe people when they say they got these rare figures in some type of MUSCLE packaging, whether it be 4-pack, the garbage can, or the 28-pack. I don't think they care enough about the MUSCLE collecting community to make up a story about how they got the figure.

While it would still be nice to see a SR MUSCLE in a package, due to all these anecdotal reports over the years I'm personally convinced these figures where sold in regular MUSCLE packaging.

Heh, that wasn't my intention at all, in fact, I meant quite the opposite! Whether a rare coin or rare toy figure, I think it much better for someone not truly interested in collecting to sell the piece for good $$$ and get it into the hands of a collector who would truly appreciate such a rare piece.

It's a win/win situation.

Thanks for all the "welcomes." Gosh i feel like a family!

Soupie, what i was saying was, I am a fan. A true fan. I dont want to sell. But if i did, i would feel guilty...as if i am not a true fan, and just trying to cash it. I have been talking to someone about that possibility...and it is sorta tearing me up...well, at least as much as a muscle can tear someone up! i wish i did not like these guys and i wish i could care less, but that is not the case, which makes parting with him or any of the guys worth 50 cents a difficult thing. ya know!
